Q1. Metals and Metalloids - where they are in Computers:

Elements

Gold - Printed Circuit Boards, Computer Chips (CPU), connectors / fingers

Silver - Printed Circuit Boards, Computer Chips, keyboard membranes, some capacitors

Platinum - Hard Drives, Circuit board components

Palladium - Hard Drives, Circuit board components (capacitors)

Copper - CPU heat sinks, wiring and cables, Printed Circuit Boards, Computer Chips

Nickel - Circuit board components

Tantalum - Circuit board components (some capacitors)

Cobalt - Hard Drives

Aluminum - Printed Circuit Boards, Computer Chips, Hard Drives, CPU heatsinks

Tin - Printed Circuit Boards, Computer Chips

Zinc - Printed Circuit Boards Neodymium - Hard Drives (magnets)

Where are these elements Found :

  1. Gold- Most of the gold mined to be used in a computer is mined in the following five countries in order China, Australia, Russia, USA and Canada

  2. Silver -The leading producer in Silver is the United states right in front of Mexico, peru and Canada
  3. Platinum - Platinum is found most of the time in gold bearing sand and the largest producer of it is Chile.
  4. Copper- IT usually comes in copper ore, but small amounts are usually found called native copper
  5. Aluminum - Is the most abundant metal on the planet but is always found as a compound, China is the largest producer of it

Description of Aluminum

Aluminum is a very good metal to be used in a computer chip because it is a very ductile material so it can be used in very thin cpus, it is also a malleable material so it can be shaped any way needed which is needed with smaller cpus and it is also a good conductor so it can transfer data fast.

Is my Device recyclable?

After a computer is used it can be recycled by being sent to major selling outlets which separate the raw materials and most of the time can reuse 70- 85% of the Device

Aluminum rutherford diagram

Aluminum is most reactive with elements of group 5 which are Nitrogen, Phosphorus, Arsenic, Antimony and bismuth. The formulas of these compounds would be Al P, Al N,

Al As, Al Sb and Al Bi.

These are all Ionic compounds because Aluminum is a metal and the rest of them are nonmetals.
