Nutrition & Personal Fitness Class
On Wednesday, the RCHS Nutrition and Personal Fitness Class had an opportunity to visit State Climb to experience indoor rock climbing! Located in Culpeper, State Climb is a 501(c)3 non-profit created to promote social, mental, and emotional health through physical activity and community engagement. The students, along with the C2BF team, enjoyed trying a variety of the courses that were offered in the expansive climbing complex. Additionally, each had an opportunity to defy gravity while trying aerial silks. The students agreed that it was a wonderful and fun experience! Thank you to Dos Allen, owner and RCHS alumni, and the rest of the State Climb crew for the incredible introduction to rock climbing and aerial silks.
This week in Nutrition and Personal Fitness class, students made acai (pronounced ah-sign-EE) bowls to wrap up a lesson about superfoods. Superfoods have a high nutritional value with minimal calories, providing a diet with antioxidants, minerals, and vitamins. In particular the acai berry is an antioxidant powerhouse that helps keep cells healthy. Be sure to check out our featured recipe to learn how to make your own acai bowls!
Hispanic Heritage Month
To celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, RCES students had an opportunity to sample a tasty Hispanic treat, Dulce de Leche. Ms. Viviana, Ms. Bullard, and the Commit to Be Fit team visited each classroom to allow students to sample the caramel and cracker snack. It was a hit with each grade levels!

Recently, C2BF invited all staff members to participate in a weekly free salad drawing. This week's winners are Kalia Page (high school) and Viviana Tisera (elementary). Active Family Time
Next week we are celebrating Family PE Week! Whether you are going for family walks, bike rides, or even playing active games around the house regularly, sharing time together while engaging in physical activity has far-reaching effects on your children. By modeling an active lifestyle, parents can, directly and indirectly, influence activities levels of their children during their childhood years and beyond. If your family isn’t regularly engaging in physical activity together, now is a wonderful time to start. Start small by setting a goal to have some form of active family time once a week. In addition to providing health benefits, it will instill healthy habits while providing fun for the whole family!
Feel free to take a photo of your physical activity this week and post using the hashtag #rappfamilies. Your pic may be featured on our social media or in our newsletter.
