Prestwick Profile - Community Vol. 12 Oct. 15
Prestwick LEarns
We are SO very excited that we have the opportunity to partner with you during parent teacher conferences. This is a time to celebrate the SUCCESS of your learner as well as identify any needs we will be focusing on to help them achieve maximum success this year. This year we continue our focus on growth for EACH and EVERY learner.
New this year are student led conferences in grades 6-8. This is time for your students to share with you their current progress and goals for the year. We are having them take the driver's seat. We highly encourage you to come and let them share their information. There is lots of research to support that self created goals provide the highest yield for growth. See your grade level Facebook page for the sign up genius. Don’t miss out!!
Don’t forget to sign up for your confirmed times. Contact your child's teacher if you have questions.

Staff Spotlight
This week’s spotlight is on one of our 7th grade teachers, Mrs. Miniscalco. Mrs. Mini, as the kids lovingly call her, is currently teaching English Language Arts and has been at Prestwick for four years. Here is what Mrs. Mini would like to share about herself. “I have taught for twelve years. I love reading and writing and get very excited to see students reading, recommending books to each other, and talking and writing about what they are reading. I believe reading and writing are the basis for all learning and is so important in our lives. I also believe that every child matters every day, and it is a privilege to get to teach them.”
“My husband Joe and I have two amazing daughters, Emelia and Maddie. They are both attending college right now, but come home all the time to visit:) We also have two dogs, Nina and Carter. The cutest, sweetest dogs ever!! We all love spending time together. This past summer we took an awesome trip to Yellowstone and spent a week exploring all the beautiful wildlife, waterfalls, forests, and so much more!
I also LOVE to do home improvements. I can use all sorts of tools and supplies to put in floors, build decks, create patios and stone gardens, and redo any room in the house. I love creating new spaces.”

Eighth grade needs your help!
Do you have any costumes or vintage clothing from historic time periods, old papers or magazines, photos, or artifacts that you are willing to part with?
Mrs. Diaz is collecting historical items to create hands on learning trunks for our students. These trunks are part of a grant 8th grade is working on. We would love to have robust trunks which allow students to experience the historical perspective first hand. We are looking for items to fill our trunks from the following time periods:
Colonial or American Revolution (1600-1700s)
Civil War/Reconstruction (late 1800’s)
WWII/Holocaust
Anything you can offer is greatly appreciated. Please consider donating in the front office or contact Mrs. Diaz at andreadiaz@leisd.ws
