Hubert Parent Newsletter - December

November 28, 2020

Thanksgiving Break is Almost Over!

Thank you for for making Hubert a safe learning environment not only for your child, but for all children learning in-person at Hubert. Hubert has been fortunate to not have had a single outbreak of COVID-19, and that is a testament to the dedication of our families and staff; adherence to social distancing and masking has been universal. Thank you again!

With that said, it has been a long break for the students! If your child has developed COVID-19 over the break (or currently experiences symptoms of COVID-19 or has been exposed to someone infected with COVID-19), please keep your child at home on Monday and fill out this form as soon as possible. After filling out that form, a contract tracer with the school will be in contact with you as soon as possible with information.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, you can contact me directly at

REMINDERS: Information From The Prior Newsletter

Productive Struggle for Teens - How You Can Help

Whether your child is learning virtually or in-person, please continue to encourage your child to be engaged in 'productive struggle' at school.

Productive struggle happens when students have a growth mindset (please click the image to the right). This occurs when the students are engaged in work that isn't too easy or too overwhelming. The work we do at Hubert aims to hit that "sweet spot."

Productive struggle is crucial for students to become independent learners. Rather than immediately jumping in to help, teachers will give room for students to problem-solve and struggle independently before offering assistance.

That may sound counter-intuitive, since many of us assume that helping students learn means protecting them from negative feelings of frustration. But for students to become independent learners, they must have practice persisting in the face of challenges.

Girl's Volleyball Tryouts - November 10

Ms. Hill, Hubert's volleyball coach, will be sending out information soon regarding tryouts- please be on the lookout.

In order to try out, a sports physical packet must be filled out completely by the child, the parent, and the child's physician. Please see below for a copy of the form.

Parents: We need your help!

Parents, please encourage your child to wake up early and be on time! Instruction begins promptly at 7:30AM. The school schedule provides students with multiple brain breaks and a lunch break. The instructional day ends at 2:30. Teachers have tutorials scheduled between 2:30 and 3:30. Teachers must mark students absent if they are not logged in or doing classwork.

Thank you for your understanding!
