Kindergarten Newsletter
Week Of March 28th
Highlights from last week....
In Reader's Workshop, we worked on how readers think while they read. We used our schema as we read our books on the life cycle of chicks.
In phonics, we focused on rhyming, word families and short vowels. We are very close to mastering these skills, but our short vowels still need some work. The "e", "i" and "u" are still tricky to many of our friends.
In Math, we worked on number bonds and number sentences. We focused on subtracting or "breaking numbers apart" this week. We focused on number stories and worked on acting them out, writing the sentence and creating a number bond to match the sentence.
In Science, we began our month long unit on life cycles. We continued to focus on chicks. We read some non-fiction books and compared them to some fiction books that we have read. We created a model to help us remember the life cycle a chicken.
In Social Studies, we concentrated on identifying sequential actions, such as first, next and last in stories and use them describe the life cycle of the chick.
In our Second Step program, we will continue to learn about our own feelings and how they can change.
A peek at our learning this week....
