Dwight School Libraries

Trimester 2 Update

Trimester 2 was busy in all our libraries! This trimester's update focuses on reading promotion and encouraging a life long love of reading. We encourage you to stop by the library and pick up a book for yourself!

Book Clubs at Dwight!

No matter your age there's a book club for you at Dwight!

In Timothy House, third and fourth graders have the option of joining a lunch time book club. Third graders are reading The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis and fourth graders are reading Pegasus: The Flame of Olympus by Kate O'Hearn.

This trimester the Middle and High School book club focused on fantasy. Everyone chose their own fantasy book to read and we spent our weekly meeting discussing what makes for a good fantasy and what our lives would be like if we lived in our books. Book Club members have also worked on displays for the library. Students organized March's book display of books with red covers under the theme, "Red Hot Books". They also worked on our "unknown book" project, covering books in wrapping paper to encourage students to take a chance on an book based only on a brief description.

Faculty also have the option to join a book club. This trimester we read Behind the Beautiful Forevers by Katherine Boo and Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn. Both books yielded great discussions, as well as many ideas for what to read next.

New Signs in the Lower School Library

Second graders used ipads to create new signs for the library. Each student designed a different letter sign. Each letter is placed near the section of the fiction collection that has books by authors whose last names start with that letter. Second grade did a great job, creating something to help everyone find the books they are looking for more easily!

Who's your Book Crush?

To celebrate Valentine's Day, the library asked middle and upper school students, "Who's Your Book Crush?" Students who answered were entered in a drawing to win their own copy of Keeping the Castle by Patrice Kindl. Answers included: Pippin from The Lord of the Rings, Dally from The Outsiders, and Peeta from The Hunger Games.

Lunch Reads!

On days two and five, sixth graders can bring their lunch to Ms. Schott's room for lunch reads. They have a chance to eat while the librarian reads aloud to them. We started the year with Among the Hidden, the first book in the Shadow Children Series, by Margaret Peterson Haddix. We're currently reading the 4th book in this series! Feel free to join us during period 5 if you're looking to relax with a good story.
