Message from Principal Doug Johnson
MTE Goodbyes
We have a few of our MTE staff members who are moving on, and I want to acknowledge these staff members:
Sheila Gerrish: Dr. G. has been a great Assistant Principal at MTE. Unfortunately, we won’t have an AP in the coming year at our school. We wish Sheila Gerrish the best!
Mary Faith Hayashi: Teacher Mary Faith was one of the founding teachers in our new ECEAP Preschool program. Next year, she’ll be a kindergarten teacher at Lynnwood Elementary and we wish her the best in her new role.
Chris Gonzales: Ms. Gonzales has been a PE teacher at our school on Thursdays and she’s been a great part of our school community. Next year, she will be a PE teacher at another school in the district and we wish her the best!
Ashley Biermann has been an outstanding 5th and 6th Grade Band Teacher at our school. Next year, our own Mrs. Harreld will be teaching band at MTE and Ms.Biermann will be a band teacher at other schools. Thank you, Ms. Biermann!
Doug Johnson: After 11 years at MTE, I’ll be a 6th grade teacher at Chase Lake Elementary before returning to a principal role at another school. I love Mountlake Terrace Elementary, and I’ll miss all of you!
We are hopeful that we’ll be able to keep all of our other 60 amazing MTE staff members!
Welcome to our new MTE Staff!
We welcome Terri Carroll to MTE as our new full-day ECEAP Preschool Teacher. Mrs. Carroll was once a parent at MTE, and she was even the PTO President here! She has been a kindergarten teacher at Lynnwood Elementary for many years, and we are excited to welcome her back to our school!
Welcome Jeff Olsen, who will be a PE teacher at our school for .1, which is ½ day per week. Welcome to MTE, Mr. Olsen!
Welcome to our new Principal, Mary Williams. Mrs. Williams has been the Principal at Cedar Way Elementary and was the Assistant Principal at MTE before that. We are so excited to have Mrs. Williams returning to Mountlake Terrace Elementary!
Welcome also to Stephanie Paolone (pronounced like ‘baloney’). Ms. Paolone will be the Principal of MTE while Mrs. Williams is out on maternity leave, from late September through Winter Break.

Hi Families!
What a great 1st year in our new school! A huge thank you to all of our volunteers over this past year - you have really made a difference. Congratulations to the Class of 2025!
We wanted to leave you with some great tidbits over the summer.
1.Receive major updates via text! Text "PTO" to 88202 to receive text message updates from your MTE PTO
2. On our website, we have our calendar of events - later this summer, we'll put in the dates of the things we have been planning that will be coming up for the 2019-20 school year. check out www.littlehawkspto.org for more info.
As a sneak peek, we have a new school play in the winter (something about a large man, who is also a bit of a gardener?), Dance dude will be coming back AND we'll have a day with the Pacific Science center! We will also have our Clay and fine arts program coming back - we are so lucky to have this program.
3. DID you know? you can add Mountlake Terrace to your amazon.smile.com account and we get 5% from Amazon sellers donated to our PTO? When you order through Amazon, go to the smile.amazon.com site and log in with your normal Amazon login information. It will ask you which non profit you would like to donate to.
Choose Mountlake Terrace Elementary PTO.
4. You can also check out our Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/MountlakeTerraceElementaryCommunity/
or log into Facebook and search for - Mountlake Terrace Elementary PTO Community for posts about things, questions answered, and other shenanigans!
5. If you have any questions - send an email to info@mtepto.com and someone on our board will be happy to answer them.
6. For the incoming 6th graders, if you run across any of these items, you can begin to build your Camp Orkila essential list located here on our website: http://www.littlehawkspto.org/camp-orkila-list
Some of the more expensive items include:
Sleeping bag or 3-blanket bed roll
Pillow (blankie or teddy bear or etc.)
Pajamas or sweats
2 pair of tennis shoes, spray with Scotch Guard, or boots
Waterproof boots (or extra shoes so other shoes may dry)
Daily change of socks & underwear (extra sock for wet feet)

Report Cards
Report Cards are posted online in Skyward Family Access
Family Access allows guardians to view student information.
Log in to Family Access via the Edmonds School District website.
On the ESD webpage you will see a link for Skyward Login. Click the link.
If you have a problem with your user name and/or password for Family Access contact the school that your child attends and the office staff can assist you.
Once logged in to Family Access:
Select “Report Cards”
Select the report card you want to open
The report card will generate and once the document is open it can be sent to a printer.
The Edmonds School District website also has more information by grade level to help you understand your child's progress. https://www.edmonds.wednet.edu/families/report_cards
Late Yearbook Orders
1. Go to their website at www.KIDSschoolPhotos.com and go to the online ordering tab. There is a $5 mailing fee for this option and they will mail the yearbook directly to you.
2. You can email them to order the book, then come pick it up at their office in Lynnwood...about 8 minutes from our school.
Class Placement Lists
Class placement lists will be available by the end of the day on August 29th . This information will be communicated in three ways:
Physically - in the front office window.
By email.
In Skyward. You will receive a phone call when this information is visible in Skyward.
(If you do not have internet access, please call the school office at (425) 431-7894.)
School Supplies
Next school year we will be asking for $35.00 per student for classroom supplies instead of asking families to purchase supplies individually. You can pay for supplies with a check, cash, or credit card in the office. You will also be able to pay online here: https://wa-edmonds.intouchreceipting.com
We all support each other at MTE! You can donate additional money to help families with this cost.
If the cost of supplies is an economic hardship for your family, please contact the school office so we can help. (425) 431-7894.
There are just a couple items that will need to be purchased by families before the first day of school.
K Two Folders with bottom pockets.
1 One folder with bottom pockets, headphones or earbuds, and a pencil box.
2 Headphones or earbuds.
3 Headphones or earbuds.
4 One folder with bottom pockets, headphones or earbuds, and a pencil box.
5 One folder with bottom pockets, headphones or earbuds, and a pencil box.
6 Headphones or earbuds and a pencil box.
Primary IS Headphones or earbuds.
Intermediate IS Headphones or earbuds and a pencil box.
(Sometimes office supply stores use old supply lists to tell families what each school is asking for. Please help spread the word that any list like this for Mountlake Terrace Elementary is no longer accurate so that our families don’t end up purchasing extra supplies. Thank you!)
