Avon Grove Charter School Spotlight
From the desk of Kristen Bishop, Head of School
Dear AGCS Families,
As the Head of School at AGCS, it is my proud honor each year to kick-off the new school year. The 2020-2021SY will be a unique start! I want to officially welcome back all students, new and returning, and give a big shout out to the class of 2021!
Whether you are a parent, student, or staff member, everyone in our school community is stepping into a new process with new expectations and new challenges. Forward Together, Avon Grove Charter School will do more than meet these challenges; we will embrace this unexpected and unique opportunity to grow as learners. Every year AGCS rallies around a theme. I believe Forward Together is a theme we can all get behind these days.
A couple of weeks ago The Chester County Health Department (CCHD) recommended that schools in Chester County and Delaware County begin their academic year virtually. While the Chester County Health Department supports the metrics released by the state, they have provided more detailed thresholds representing community transmission and the recommended corresponding instructional models that drive in-person vs. virtual instruction. Click here to review the metrics and the most recent guidance from the CCHD. During this time, we will closely monitor Chester County data and continue to refine our internal processes.
Communication is essential, so here are a few things that you will need to know to kick the year off on the right foot:
All students/families have logins to Powerschool and Schoology. We ask that you login to each platform at least once prior to the first day of school, especially if you are new to either platform. If you can not login, please contact your divisional Principal.
This summer we rolled out our new website! We are hopeful the new site is easier to navigate than previous sites. Check out the Instructional Learning Plan- Parents Guide and our AGCS Health and Safety Plan. Both documents are fluid and will be updated as our instructional models change.
School information will be emailed to you every Wednesday, our designated communication day.
Monthly Newsletters will be shared from the Head of School, Mrs. Bishop.
There are some new faces at AGCS this year. Our administrative team is thrilled to introduce Gerri Ann Lambert, Middle School Principal, as one of those faces.
I am always so proud of the collaboration between our administration, teachers, staff, students, school board, local businesses, and our community members. It is this dedication to AGCS that has enabled us to accomplish goals and finish projects during a hectic summer. Here are a few accomplishments I would like to highlight:
Construction and facilities teams were able to replace windows this summer at the State Road campus. The window project will be complete the week of 9/21. At State Rd, the cafeteria and gym had some upgrades and air conditioning units added. In addition, bathrooms were upgraded at both schools.
Safety and security will always be our number one priority. We have added PPE equipment around both buildings. We have also partnered with the CCIU and the Avon Grove School District to hire a new Safety and Security Manager, Collin Meisenhelter. This position will allow us to collaborate with police, fire departments, and medical personnel to ensure communication, policies, and procedures strong in order to keep our communities safe.
Thank you to everyone who participated in the orientation days. It was great to see some of you in person, meet your teachers, collect your supplies, devices, and get acquainted with new programs. Please call the main office if you have any questions or did not make it to orientation to pick up your materials. Teachers will be sharing their orientation presentations at the end of the week via email/Schoology.
I want to take a moment to applaud our team for their work over the summer. The administration and facilities teams have worked tirelessly to ensure campuses are safe, clean, and ready for teachers and students. Office staff, administrators, and teachers have spent countless hours preparing for remote learning. We all are committed to staying flexible and persistent with serving our students as our primary objective.
I remain hopeful for the future and that we can safely see our students in-person, sooner rather than later. I appreciate your support and understanding in these uncertain times.
We don’t have perfect solutions, and we can predict exactly how this year will play out. What we do know is that together, as an AGCS family, we will overcome the challenges ahead and move Forward Together.

Head of School Report
Flexible Instructional Day (FID) application has been submitted to the Pennsylvania Department of Education. Our Health and Safety Plan has been approved and grants us the opportunity to currently teach our students remotely. The FID application will allow us to continue to teach virtually when we return to school and have a weather-related closure such as snow. Whenever possible, AGCS will provide as much notice of the possible implementation of an FID day to staff, students, and parents.
This update includes the plan to accommodate and transition special education students back to school.
The Instructional Plan-Parent Guide offers families guidance and a common set of expectations for a remote teaching model.
