A Letter From Our Director
Greetings,
So far South Metro GNETS – Ash St. Center has had a Winter season full of exciting therapeutic activities and events designed to foster student growth both socially and emotionally. We look forward to continuing to support the students of Clayton and Henry County with the educational and therapeutic supports grounded in principles of the Neurosequential Model of Education (NME).
During the Winter months, we have completed our student data triangulation to assign specific therapeutic supports to students individually; this process calls for teams to meet and review student data to determine tier placement.
In addition to student data triangulation, South Metro students have participated in the iReady mid-year assessment as well as other district assessments. The instructional teams are working hard to incorporate therapeutic support systems in each classroom like morning and afternoon circles. Also, the students continue to benefit from our program implementation of Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) conferencing and activities.
Our clinical team has a variety of activities planned for parents and caregivers of students assigned to South Metro. We plan to share beneficial information and resources for families. We look forward to seeing you all at the Ash St. Center or JB Henderson Center at our lunch and learn series.
Sincerely,
Derrick Gilchrist

Holidays Around the World @ JBH!
Middle schoolers explored China's beautiful landscape, food and culture!
Notice Italy's boot shape! Students prepared Italian cuisine for peers and staff to enjoy!
The Japanese culture was explored and found to eat KFC during the holidays!
Students gave their all in decorating their classroom representing the traditional culture! (We felt the chill in Iceland!)
The vibrant colors, holiday traditions, and customs of Mexico were beautifully represented through student presentations!
Who is a School Psychologist?
School Psychologists are members of teams who support students' ability to learn and teachers' ability to teach. We strive to help scholars succeed academically, emotionally, and socially-behaviorally.
In our role as School Psychologists, we often partner with families, teachers, school administrators, and other professionals to create safe, healthy, and supportive learning environments.
On any given day, a School Psychologist can be found engaging in one or more of these activities:
• Conduct psychological assessments
• Consult with teaching staff/school personnel
• Provide academic/learning interventions
• Provide social-behavioral interventions
• Offer crisis preparedness, response, and recovery
• Help adjust classroom routines to improve student engagement and learning
• Communicate with parents about student progress and needs
Ms. Youngblood is happy to meet with any school personnel to better clarify her role at South Metro Program or to assist with any challenges. Her door is always open to you!
