Message from the Principal
Standing Bear Families,
What a success!!
Students earned $42, 000 dollars during the Fun Run! I want to thank all our families for participating and supporting Standing Bear Elementary. I truly feel blessed to be part of this community. Students were very excited for the "sliming" event. I am glad that they exceeded the original goal and we were able to have some sticky fun!! Below is a quick movie trailer of the Fun Run and Slime Time. Hope you enjoy it!
Hey Parents- WOOT! We have shaved off 7 minutes of time during morning drop off by pulling down the the main entrance crosswalk when possible. If you are in the parking lot line (between the parked cars), please pull all the way down as well. We will cross students at the west crosswalk and they can still enter through the breakfast doors. We anticipate that we can shave off another 5 minutes if we do this. I know that parents have busy mornings, so we want to make this process as efficient as possible. Just as a reminder, you will not be able to park in the drop off zone once cones are out. Thank you!!
Please be cognizant of where you are parking and take note of the "No Parking" signs along Taylor Street and 159th street. Buses are having difficulty making the corner turn due to cars parked in no parking zones. If you have any questions or concerns please reach out to me.
We appreciate all you do to help make our drop off and pick up safe. Thank you!

Strive For 95!
Facts about School Attendance
When 90% Does Not Earn An “A”
95%-100% Not Chronic (Satisfactory Attendance)—Missing (9 days) or less of school in an academic year.
91%- 95% At-Risk Attendance—Missing (10 -17 days) of school in an academic year.
90% -81% Chronic Absence—Missing (18 days) or more of school in an academic year.
80% or less Severe Chronic Absence—Missing (36 days) or more of school in an academic year.
80% or less Habitually Chronic Absence-Missing (36 days) or more of school, year after year
Establishing Good Attendance Habits
Introduce your child to his/her teachers and classmates before school starts to help his/her transition. Attendance matters as early as kindergarten. Starting in the early grades, the number of students missing 10 percent of school can reach remarkably high levels. Early absences can rob students of the time they need to develop literacy skills. Help your child maintain daily routines, such as finishing homework and getting a good night’s sleep.
Lay out clothes and pack backpacks the night before.
Good attendance will help children do well in high school, college, and at work.

Important Information from Standing Bear
Building Security
We welcome all parents to visit Standing Bear Elementary. For the safety and security of our students and this building, we require that all parents get a visitor badge from the office when going past the main entrance. If you enter through the cafeteria doors, please also stop by the office if walking your child to their classroom. Thank you for taking the extra steps to help ensure our school is a safe place to learn.
Drop Off Zone
We ask that you please continue to pull all the way down to the second crosswalk if possible (by main front doors). We can then unload around 10 vehicles rather than 5. Also, we have some very excited and responsible "Ambassadors" to assist with opening your car doors for easy drop off.
School Messenger
We will be using the School Messenger (Robo call or email) to communicate this year. Please make sure to contact the office if you need to update your contact information.
Birthday Celebrations
We ask that you contact your child's teacher to determine if there is a good time to bring in birthday items. We ask that all items be non-food items, due to student allergies. Thank you!
