Maire Newsletter April 15th edition

Dear Maire Families

We are so excited for community events to return to Maire in the upcoming weeks. What makes Maire truly special is the connections we have as a community, and getting back to more normal times is exciting for everyone.

One of those events is our big Parent Auction which happens every three years (although it has been longer due to Covid). This event historically has been a way to raise money for Maire to fund special larger projects. Each year our Fun Run raises enough money to run the PTO budget for the year and provide resources for some smaller projects. Our big project this year is creating an outdoor “community hub.” This covered picnic area, which will be on the Maire blacktop near the playground, will serve many purposes, but all of them involve coming together. Classes will be able to be outside to extend learning beyond our walls. It will provide a shaded space for students to come together to relax and connect during recess. After school hours and over the summer, it will provide a community gathering spot where kids can play on the playground and families can socialize with each other.

In late May we will have our Field Day. Our entire school will enjoy being outside doing a variety of fun activities and games. We rely on parent support to run stations, so stay tuned for more information on volunteering.

Class picnics in the final weeks of school are another highlight of the year that we’ve missed out on lately, but are coming back. Each grade has an end of the year celebration. Leaving school and heading to a park is certainly a highlight for our kids, but parents and staff enjoy being out at this fun event as well.

There are even more events coming up that will bring us together. We look forward to each one as we finish out this year building and celebrating our great community!

TUESDAY BAGEL SALE- 4th Grade Legacy Gift

As part of the fourth graders’ legacy gift, they have decided to raise funds to help children impacted by the war in Ukraine by having a bagel sale. All proceeds from the bagel sale will be sent to relief organizations focused on assisting families displaced by the war. Students at Maire will have the opportunity to purchase bagels in class during the first hour of school each Tuesday for the remainder of the school year. 4th grade students will bring bagels down to each room and sell them to the students. Students will be able to choose between plain, blueberry, and cinnamon bagels. Cost will be $1 per bagel and 50 cents for cream cheese. Any student that wants to send a kind note or picture to Ukraine can do so in their free time and drop it off in the office before the end of the year.

Y5/Kindergarten Transition Day

We are excited to announce that Young 5s is returning to Maire next year! All families that have registered for Young 5s or Kindergarten are being sent an invitation to our Transition Day event on May 2nd here at Maire. Each child gets an appointment time to meet with our teachers. This not only gets students more comfortable with school, it also allows us to get to know them and build the excitement for joining us in the fall.

If you registered for Y5/K, please check your email for our Sign Up for the May 2nd event. Not registered yet? As long as you register by May 1st we can guarantee a spot for you here at Maire and still get you an appointment.
