Reporting Absences

Yearly Consent Forms
Every year parents must give their consent for children to attend field trips, use lockers and access technology. Please take a moment this week to visit your PowerSchool ParentPortal and complete the annual consent forms for each child you have attending an EICS school. If you have not already completed an EICS Demographic Confirmation Form for your child this is a great opportunity to get that completed as well. This forms ensures that we have up-to-date information to reach you in an emergency.

School Fees
Teachers are busy finalizing their plans for field trips and presentations for the year and we expect to have information about the exciting events they have planned for your child shortly. The fee for Field Trips and Presentations will be added to your child's PowerSchool account in October.
If the paying of fees is a financial difficulty you may be eligible for the EICS Fee Waiver Program, please visit the EICS website to learn more. The deadline for applications is December 13, 2019.

EICS Trustee By-Election Results
Notice of Official Election Results in School Division
By-election for one seat in Fort Saskatchewan for Trustee
Sherwood Park, AB… At the closing of the Nomination Day for the one seat in Fort Saskatchewan, Ward 2 for School Trustee, it was declared by acclamation that Al Stewart was elected Trustee. This seat was vacated by Justine Wright who served as the Trustee for Fort Saskatchewan since 2013.
Board Chair Ted Paszek made the following statement,” On behalf of the Elk Island Catholic School (EICS) Board of Trustees, we are thrilled to welcome Mr. Stewart to our Board and Division. His commitment to Catholic education, combined with his extensive knowledge of the education system in Alberta will make a great addition to our Board.”
Power Options Are Back!
Thank you to our teachers and support staff, along with many of the parents who facilitated workshops last year. You are always welcome back, and we welcome new learning facilitators too!
What were some of the options offered by staff and parents you ask? The children adored digging deeper with Science Experiments, braiding and cross training, cooking, cross-stitching, painting, beading, soccer, floor hockey, softball, planting, recycling, henna art, Ukrainian Dance, music and song writing, creative drawing, building, ringette, Reader's Theater, animal research on chromebooks, printmaking, playdough making, Rainbow Science activities, handbells, circuit building, guided drawing, card making and math games.
Excitement is already building as to what opportunities will be brought to children this year!
Power Options Planning has begun!
We are looking for parents to offer OLA children a workshop to help them go deeper into a topic of their choice and experience learning from the expertise of our OLA community. Workshops can be linked to any of the Alberta Education Competencies (linked here) and rooted in your passions, work experience, skills, talents or hobbies. The options workshops will be held on early dismissal Wednesday, October 2 from 12:45pm - 2:00pm with a repeated workshop on Wednesday, November 6 from 12:45pm - 2:00pm. Parents are asked offer their workshop on both of these days. We will also offer Power Options Round II December 4/January 8 from 12:45pm - 2:00pm.
At OLA we do all we can to ensure learning success. Parent involvement in children's learning is a another important factor to successful learning!

Nominate an educator!
Join us for READ-IN Month!
Read-in Week is October 7-11 and this year's theme is "Start Exploring!"
We always love every and any reason to celebrate reading, so we have expanded Read-in Week to Read-in Month!
During the Month of October we are inviting you and your loved ones to come in and take a few moments (like 30 minutes) to share your favourite picture book with our students.
We are looking for Moms, Dads, Babas, Guidos, Aunties, Uncles, (you get the point) to share their love of learning and favourite books. We welcome you to join us for READ-IN.

Calling All Volunteers!
We are looking forward to seeing you at events, concerts and around the school helping. We love seeing new and familiar faces and the students get so excited when they see their own parents at school. What a great way to show them we can make a difference by volunteering.
A volunteer form will be going home with your child next week. If you think you may be able to help with any of the volunteer opportunities (Thank you in advance!) please check the box on the form and/or the committee. Closer to the event we will contact you to confirm your availability. Remember . . . you can check more than one box - we can use all the hands we can get!

Club Moo Milk Program
This year milk will be delivered on Tuesdays and Thursdays. As with past milk programs, only students who participate in the prepaid program will receive milk. Students may choose either white or chocolate milk, and the milk will be delivered directly to their classrooms so that it is ready for them when they come in from lunch recess to eat at 12:04 pm.
Following the same format as last year, you may order milk from your child's PowerSchool ParentPortal account. The cost for pre-ordered milk will be $50.00/child or $95.00/two children for delivery from Tuesday, October 1st to Thursday, June 18th .

Hot Lunch

Sacrament of Reconciliation
Catholic children in Grade 2 (or older) are invited to prepare for the Sacrament of Reconciliation at Our Lady of the Angels Parish.
Registration is open until October 4, 2019 - no late registrations will be accepted.
Class dates:
- October 12, 2019 OLA Church meeting room 10:00 am (Parents required to stay)
- October 19, 2019 OLA Church meeting room 10:00 am (Children only)
- October 26, 2019 OLA Church 10:00 am Celebration
Registration forms are available online at www.olafortsask.caedm.ca or at the chruch office. There is a $25 registration fee to cover the costs of materials.
