BSD Family Updates

Tuesday, July 27, 2021

Hello BSD families!

We hope you are having a great summer!

The first day of school is right around the corner! The Bremerton School District is very excited to welcome students in grades 1-12 back to the classroom for in-person learning on Wednesday, September 1 and kindergarten students on Tuesday, September 7.

We wanted to provide you with a few important updates for fall 2021.

Revisions to school schedules for BHS and MVMS

We are making a minor change to the Bremerton High School and Mountain View Middle School school schedules for 2021-22.

The school hours for the 2021-22 school year are:
  • Bremerton High School: 7:30 a.m. - 2:10 p.m. (12:15 release on Wednesdays)
  • Mountain View Middle School: 8:10 a.m. - 2:50 p.m. (12:55 release on Wednesdays)
  • Elementary schools and WHSA: 9:05 a.m. - 3:35 p.m. (1:40 on Wednesdays) - no change
  • Renaissance High School & West Sound Technical Skills Center - no change

Updated bus schedules will be be posted on the District website later this week. Revised bell schedules for BHS and MVMS will be available and posted soon.

Some background on our decision

As you may be aware, there is research that speaks to the benefit to later school arrival times for middle and high school students. We began discussions this spring about possible changes to school arrival times for fall 2021 but, as you might imagine, the decision to change school schedules is complex - and it takes time to implement any major changes.

What's next?

We are committed to continued discussions and planning about school schedules/arrival times for fall 2022 and beyond. We will continue this important work this fall so that a decision can be made early next spring - allowing adequate time for staff, families and community partners (such as childcare centers) to plan and make adjustments, if needed.

Coming soon: Fall 2021 Family Guide

The guide will include information on our updated COVID health and safety protocols, and other information to get your student(s) ready to be back-in-the-classroom this fall!

Please watch for it the week of August 9! The guide will be sent to families via email, and be posted on the District website and Facebook page!

No Back-to-School Fair this year

This year's event has been canceled due to social distancing requirements for schools that would be difficult to maintain at an event as big as our Back-to-School Fair.

We hope to bring the event back in 2021! Click here to learn more. We will also be posting information on other back-to-school events on our website.
