Glows and Grows

Glows: Thank you to staff who attended the recent ELAC meeting. It was a productive meeting with a contact from Solano County Public Health in attendance. Thank you to our Special Education team. It has been a brisk few weeks of IEPs and SSTs and your dedication to early mornings and late afternoons is noticed and appreciated. Shout out to Mr. Amos for spending so much time preparing our MPR for Friday's daughters dance!

Grows: When is the last time your students purposefully participated in planned academic conversations? What role did you play? What level of sophistication did they achieve and what scaffolds did you provide?

MAP Testing Complete

MAP testing is done. I am including a school wide report in the body of the staff notes email. This looks at entire grade levels, expected growth, and actual growth. The school growth picture is a mixed one. Every class made positive growth. Some classes saw over 80-95% of their students meet growth targets. Other classes were as low as 30-35% of students meeting growth targets.

Please dig into the data. I sent an email late last week with a variety of reports. Set new goals and identify students who need additional intervention and attention. Our Winter 2019 MAP scores were also a mixed review but with your focused efforts, we made great gains on the Spring CAASPP.

SCOE Special Education Visit TODAY

The Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District is receiving directed assistance from the Solano County of Education in the area of Special Education. As part of their work, SCOE will be visiting several schools across the District. Ours is one. They will interview me on February 24th starting at 8:00 and will spend a bit of time visiting classrooms (with me in tow). They will likely wrap up by 9:15.

Thanks again to Ms. McElveen for inviting us into her classroom last week and for showcasing one tool she uses to engage her students. If you ever want to see it in action in her class, reach out to her. I can even cover a class for a few minutes for you to jump over to watch, if needed.

Check out the portable professional development in the bathroom. You can take a flyer or scan the QR code to get some insight and ideas on using google classroom. Thank you to the kidn staff member who posted.

Morning Exepectations

Last week was better but I'd appreciate a few more reminders this week:

1. Students may enter campus for breakfast and/or game room starting at 7:50 via the red door. They must enter and report directly to their destination.

2. The main gates go up at 8:10. Students should report to morning PE as soon as possible. If they are here at 8:10, they may hang up backpacks (or follow whatever routine you have set for your students).

3. The first bell rings at 8:15 and this is the reminder to clear the MPR and quad and to hurry to morning PE.

4. The second bell rings at 8:20 and students must be with you by that time.

We have limited supervision capacity in the MPR and quad and yard. Please pitch in and kindly welcome and move students along to morning PE.

Attendance, Student and Staff/Reminder!

If you are concerned about a student who is missing school, reach out to the family or to Karen and we will work on making a contact with a family to chat through whatever is going on. Sometimes, a postcard or good news referral for a student missing school goes a long way.

Remember, I track school wide attendance here! One of the best things we can do to find success for our students is to celebrate their presence and to make sure we are the ones leading them each day! Thanks for your commitment.

Donors Choose

Many of you put together some awesome "" requests. As a school, your work to gain donations to use for specific projects, supplies, activities, and furniture from the community is appreciated! A few things:

1. Please let me know if you have submitted a Donors Choose project. Send me the link and I will be sure to include it in my parent newsletter and on our Facebook page.

2. If the project includes furniture, it must be approved by our purchasing department. If you send me the specs ahead of time, I have no issue sending it to the appropriate staff for approval.

3. Send me any photos AFTER the arrival of the project and I will also include that in any parent newsletter/FB/IG post.
