Reeceville Elementary School
Monday Morning Message: October 26, 2020
Return to In-Person Instruction: November 9, 2020
On Thursday night you received an email with your child's cohort assignment or confirmation to stay virtual. If students had siblings, they were grouped together in the same cohorts. You will also be receiving a letter in the mail detailing specific information: the cohort assignment and students' homeroom teacher. In the event that your child's homeroom teacher has changed, an email was sent on Wednesday explaining the change.
In the case that families would like to change their selection for virtual or in-person learning, you must send an email to celotton@casdschools.org detailing your request, including the names of your children at Reeceville and in any other schools in the district. You will be placed on a master list and will be notified when and if the change will be effective. In the case of moving from virtual to In-person instruction, there may be a waitlist due to ensuring we have space and staff available to accommodate the move to in-person instruction.
Beginning on November 9, students will be following the building schedule. Teachers will be providing students with their new schedule to follow, so they will know when to zoom in to the direct instruction for which the teacher is providing. It is imperative that students follow the schedules that are provided by their teachers, as this new schedule will include the content area times as well as related arts, lunch, recess, and grade level-specific intervention times.
We appreciate your flexibility and support as we navigate the new environment of learning.
Virtual Parent Conferences: November 2, 2020

Mrs. Cloud's Fourth Grade Students-Researching Weather
Mrs. Cloud's class has been busy researching weather. Students chose their topic, and they have been busy reading multiple texts. Students learned how to take notes on the important details. They even learned how to add new information to what they already knew. Finally, the students are getting ready to present their learning with each other. In writing the students have started to write essays. Can you believe it? They have developed a thesis from topics personal to them. Some students have chosen to write about recess needing to be longer, while others chose to write about how online school is much harder than in person. The students are able to support their statement with reasons and examples. Fourth grade is really working hard!
Fifth Grade Students Celebrate Their Narratives
Fifth grade celebrated the ending of their Narrative Writing Unit. Students celebrated by recording their story. This is Caleb reading his Narrative titled, "Justin Goes to Art Camp." He had Biscuit help tell the story! The Narrative Craft Unit will be next.
Colby Prepares for Halloween
During quarantine, Colby had a surprise delivery of pumpkins. Thanks to A Kid Again Foundation who sent him a Fall Adventure In a Box. Colby also made caramel apples and carved Jack o Lanterns.

Read Aloud Tips for Families from Mrs. Washington
Reading a bedtime story is a fond tradition for many families. This occurs most frequently with our very young children, from birth usually up to early elementary school age. We know this is a time to bond and begin to nurture the love of reading.
We don’t need to stop reading aloud to children once they learn to read on their own. Many picture books are written at a level that is often higher than your child’s independent reading level. Reading them aloud gives access to richer language and subject matter. Children love transitioning to chapter books, but may need a little support, so read a chapter or section aloud at a time, instead of a picture book. Graphic novels, comics, or magazines also can be read aloud.
There are many great reasons to continue reading to children throughout elementary school.
- Builds vocabulary
- Improves comprehension
- Provides positive modeling
- Improves listening skills
- Introduces the classics
- Helps build empathy
- Helps with discussing difficult issues
- Sparks curiosity for learning
- Creates warm memories
For more on this topic you may read the articles below.

Don’t forget to check out our PTA sponsored Scholastic book fair online to find some books to read aloud while supporting our school. Here’s a sample of a few read aloud possibilities for older students.

21st Century After School Program
Hello Reeceville Elementary Families!!!!
My name Ms.Claudette, and I am the Program Coordinator with the 21st Century After School Program at Reeceville Elementary. This school year we would like to share some exciting news and tell you all about some new learning experiences that is going to be offered to your child(ren).
Like many schools throughout Chester County, classes are being offered remotely/virtually. Many teachers have begun to incorporate new tools and resources into their daily lessons. And students are experiencing new methods of learning which has an important, lasting impact on their educational experience. Throughout this transition, it has become very apparent that with the required physical distance between teachers and students, it is more important than ever to find ways to connect with students and keep them actively engaged, motivated and safe within the virtual learning experience.
I am excited to share with you that the 21st Century will be offering a virtual after school program. Our program will be operating Monday through Thursday. During this time your child will be provided with academic support that will assist with daily school assignments, extension activities and/or homework. Our program will also provide STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) and Social Emotional Learning Enrichment.
Our 21st Century teachers will also be utilizing the Matific, educational math program. This program has over 1,500 interactive and engaging math activities and lessons. It is one of the most effective ways to help children learn the fundamentals of mathematics. Implementing Matific is an EXCELLENT way to help boost “math confidence” within children, while turning screen time into learning time.
If you would like your child to participate in the 21st Century Virtual After School Program, please feel free to contact me:
Claudette Wilson, Program Coordinator
484-401-6385; Claudettew@cciu.org
I look forward to speaking with all of you and starting this new and exciting school year!!
