Our Curriculum

With first quarter ending, I wanted to take the opportunity to briefly describe the curriculum used in our classrooms.

Project Construct

Project Construct is a learner-centered approach to teaching preschool. We use your child’s interest to plan hands-on lessons and activities to keep him or her motivated and engaged. Your child is encouraged to collaborate and work together with peers, take initiative, express opinions, make choices, learn from errors, problem solve, think critically, and use creativity.

Handwriting Without Tears (HWOT)

HWOT is a fun, hands-on pre-writing and letter recognition curriculum. This program develops handwriting readiness skills with music, dough, magnetic stamps, and wood pieces. You will hear your child talking about Mat Man, big lines, and curved lines. It is very important to note that letter formation is taught through sticks and curves formation and your child will begin with the letter L. The pattern followed each week is not the normal alphabetical order.

Fundations

This is a program that your child will continue to learn in kindergarten. It is a phonics program that teaches print knowledge, alphabet awareness, phonological awareness, phonemic awareness, decoding, and vocabulary. These are all skills necessary for your child when learning to read.

Counselor's Corner

I just finished teaching the "The Turtle" to all the classrooms! "The Turtle" is a calm down technique that can be used when your child is mad or sad. Ask them about Twiggle the Turtle!

Wanting to know more about your child's day? Try starting with these questions:
What was the best part of your day?
Tell me something that made you laugh today.
What is your favorite thing to do at recess?
Tell me about one thing you learned today.

Free Coats

The Salvation Army is hosting an event at Harvester Church in Troy on Oct 15th from 9am-1pm. Coats are available in Mens, Womens and Childrens sizes. All coats are FREE! Everyone is WELCOME!!!

Mason's Message

Ruff! I have been motivating my friends to participate by selecting one of my friends holding my ducks to have a turn at a learning activity. Some of my friends who have have trouble talking have really started talking so they can see me do my tricks! I love all the snuggles I get from my friends.

READING CALENDAR

The Nightly Reading Record Sheet is an amazing way to make sure reading is a priority in your house. When your child returns a monthly reading calendar completely filled in, they will receive a fun book and a prize to take home. PLEASE take the time to print this calendar for your child. http://www.troy.k12.mo.us/domain/88 Monthly participation allows your child to learn and also spend quality time with you.

Children are made readers on the laps of their parents.”

–Emily Buchwald

PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports)

Each month a PBIS sheet will come home with your child to help your family support the positive behavior that your child is learning and practicing at school. Hopefully PBIS will encourage your child have positive behavior at home as well. Please read over each item on the monthly PBIS sheet and when your child has completed those tasks he or she can return it to school to add a cutout to our PBIS wall. A copy of the form can be found at this link. http://www.troy.k12.mo.us/domain/88
