April Newsletter
Welcome Spring!
It is wonderful to have this lovely spring weather. With the arrival of the new season comes many new learning activities in our classroom. Here is a look at what we have been up to...
STEAM Time
We are busy with our latest STEAM (science-technology-engineering-arts-mathematics) theme: a literature-based author study of Theodor Geisel, or "Dr. Seuss". Along with enjoying his many literary works, we are making a variety of art projects and creating our own "Seuss Cities". This project-based unit incorporates many science and social studies outcomes, including planning, designing and constructing, and learning about services and leadership in communities.
Math
This month we are building up our understanding of number operations. The students are getting very good at adding and subtracting numbers up to 100 in their heads (yay!!) and now we are working on the comprehension of strategies that let us add and subtract 3-digit numbers. We are continuing to work on multiplication and division strategies, finding perimeter of small objects, and working with 3-D objects. We have also begun exploring similarities and differences in patterns and identifying pattern rules. So much to explore in the world of mathematics!
Student-Led Conferences
Our April student-led conferences will be held next week. Please watch for an email notification with a link to our Sign-Up Genius website for booking a time that works for your family.
