Our Science Specials Teacher- Ms. Angie Curtis!
How long have you been with Arcado Elementary? This is my 11th year at Arcado.
Who or what inspired you to become a teacher? I think I was meant to be a teacher. It is something I always wanted to do. My ballet teacher and my 11th grade science teacher were to two largest influencers on my career choice.
Why did make the change from kindergarten to Science Specials teacher? Well, I still consider myself a kindergarten teacher....it's 'who' I am. I'm just now a kindergarten teacher turned scientist! Nature, inquiry, problem solving, and engineering have always sparked my teaching and my life. I spent the last 7 years of my career participating in staff development centered around using my organic interests to better my teaching. I gained the science endorsement on my teaching certificate two years ago. Along with Mrs. Stanfield, I led school wide initiatives with science and STEM and helped out when Mrs. Stanfield was unable to be at programs. I also led county level staff development programs and developed resources for Gwinnett County Teachers. When Mrs. Stanfield retired, it seemed natural for me to fill those shoes.
Do you have a personal motto or favorite quote?
What are your other hobbies? Fitness and eating healthy, being active in my sorority, listening to music, advocating for the environment.
If you were not a teacher, what would you be or would like to do? A dentist of course! I am the resident tooth puller at Arcado. I love teeth and dental hygiene. I find any opportunity to incorporate these into my day!
What was your first job? Cared for the dogs and cats at a pet store.
Who is going to win the Superbowl?
Why, the Carolina Panthers, of course! I'm a Carolina Girl...born and raised!
