A Weekly Look at Grant Elementary School & the Grant PTA

Week of October 7, 2019

Shamrock Spotlight:

Grant's Got Talent is Back! Auditions on Friday, 10/4

Come take the stage this Friday after school and show us what you've got! Performers can grab a form after school in the office or print it out from this link and bring it Friday. See applicable rules & dates on form.

Author Jake Burt Comes to Grant, 10/4 at 1pm

Students in grades 3rd through 6th are invited to meet author Jake Burt on Friday October 4th at 1 PM. His book is called "The Tornado." It isn't about weather systems, but rather about bullying and the use of STEM resources to combat it. Burt's first book "Greetings From Witness Protection" was really good. Jake also happens to be a 5th grade teacher!

The Grant Jogathon is here, 10/18 Fundraising Underway

The Jogathon is one of Grant's biggest fundraisers of the year and we are counting on everyone to participate. Our goal this year is to raise 40k! We can only do it with your help, so let's get moving! If you get $10 donations from 10 people, you're benefitting Grant so much. You can do it! Create your Pledgestar account here and get started.

A packet for cash donations was also sent home.

The jogathon will be held on 10/18 and we'll be looking for volunteers. Details on class running times will be coming soon.

International Day Survey & Meeting

International Day is coming up on November 8th!

Can you please help the committee know where our Grant families come from by filling out the optional questions here: International Day Survey

Ms.Crysdale and Ms.Beavers would like to invite everyone to join them in the Grant school library for an International Day planning meeting: Thursday October 3rd at 2:30 PM.

Author Raffle

Copperfield's bookstore is amazing at bringing children's authors to our town. This October they will be hosting Tui Sutherland (Wings of Fire Series) and Dav Pilkey (Captain Underpants and Dog Man Series). Since both of these authors are favorites of Grant School students, Librarian Alice Crysdale will raffle off 2 tickets to each visit. Both tickets come with a free book! If your child is interested in entering either or both of the raffles, remind him/her to come to sign up for it on Wednesdays lunch recess in the library. These visits are a great opportunity for all.

Grant Halloween Parade, 10/31

We'll have more details soon, but for new Grant families who might need to request time off - Grant has a wonderful Halloween Parade tradition. At about 12:40pm on Halloween, the kids take to the parade route in costume, walking out the side of the school and coming down Mountain View back to Grant Avenue and into the front of the school. Parents often gather along the parade route to cheer them on and take photos. A note about costumes: no real or fake weapons will be allowed on campus and we ask that kids not wear masks covering the face for safety reasons. Thank you!

In the Thank You Column:

  • Thank to Maryann Pacheco for organizing and running the Boon supply fundraiser for the PTA.

  • Many thanks to Chantel Smith for creating a beautiful jogathon display case outside the office! We love to watch the thermometer rise!

  • Big thanks to Alice Crysdale for putting so much extra love into the library with holiday decor and a warm welcoming feeling. It's a safe and wonderful place for kids to find a love for books.
