IMPORTANT SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS
Coach Morrison Earns His 100th Win!
Last Friday, the Santiago football team had a convincing win against Murrieta Valley. In doing so, Santiago earned Coach Scott Morrison his second consecutive victory over the Nighthawks and 100th career win.
“When I’m old and retired, this will be something I’ll really appreciate,” Morrison said. “Here’s what really sunk in: these seniors — 16 of them now (who came in with me) and that’s pretty awesome.”
Congratulations Coach Morrison!
BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT
Santiago High Leadership Classes are dedicated to making a positive impact on campus.
As a school, we strive to change the environment on campus by recognizing students for the amazing things that they do. One of the ways we have implemented change at Santiago is through our Be a S.H.A.R.K. campaign. The goal is to get students and staff involved by practicing the characteristics of what it means to be a SHARK.
Next week, we celebrate what it means to Be a S.H.A.R.K. with a spirit week called S.H.A.R.K. week.
Each day of the week is associated with a different letter of the SHARK acronym:
S – Show Responsibility
H – Have Integrity
A – Achieve
R – Respect
K – Know Yourself
Students will be participating in fun lunchtime activities throughout the week.
BE A S.H.A.R.K. Campaign was a HIT!
The 2018-2019 school year was kicked off this week with our Be a SHARK campaign on campus. Your student(s) watched several videos and participated in several activities to learn expected behaviors on campus. Our goal is to translate these positive behaviors outside of school and into your home and our community.
What is BE A SHARK? BE A SHARK is a schoolwide campaign designed to improve school culture and to teach, highlight, and promote the positive behaviors that define who we want to be.
Our WHY? Practicing BE A SHARK behaviors lead to a safe and supportive community with a positive learning environment and competent, responsible citizens.
Measurable results include: fewer discipline issues, better attendance, higher academic performance, and a generally more positive, inclusive, and encouraging atmosphere in all areas on campus.

All students will be required to visibly wear their ID daily on a lanyard while on campus. If a student loses or damages their ID card they will be required to get a replacement ID from the Shark Shop. Replacement ID cards cost $5.00 and replacement ASB ID cards cost $10.00.

Un-Served Saturday Schools
Attention Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors-
If you have Saturday Schools due to excessive tardies from last school year (2017-2018), you MUST serve these actions in a timely manner or on and off campus privileges WILL be revoked (i.e. off-campus passes, dances, rallies, Prom, SENIOR GRAD NITE, and/or other extra-curricular activities). See your grade level assistant principal with any questions.
THINK BEFORE YOU POST!
Attendance Matters at Santiago!
Reducing California’s high chronic absenteeism rates is a priority in the Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP).
A "chronic absentee" has been defined in California Education Code (EC) Section 60901(c)(1) as "a pupil who is absent on 10 percent or more of the school days in the school year when the total number of days a pupil is absent is divided by the total number of days the pupil is enrolled and school was actually taught in the regular day schools of the district, exclusive of Saturdays and Sundays."
Across the country, more than 8 million students are missing so many days of school that they are academically at risk. Chronic absence — missing 10 percent or more of school days due to absence for any reason—excused, unexcused absences and suspensions, can translate into third-graders unable to master reading, sixth-graders failing subjects and ninth-graders dropping out of high school.
This year Santiago, in cooperation with CNUSD, is taking steps to ensure students are attending school more regularly. Santiago High School will notify parents/guardians of attendance bi-weekly through our student information system (Q). As always, we encourage you to regularly check Q attendance and report any discrepancies.
