3rd Grade Family Music Night!
Thursday night was such a wonderful evening at Western Avenue! Our third grade children and families participated in "Family Music Night," a magical evening at Western Avenue where singing, dancing, playing and reading music all come together as one.
Students and their families started in our gymnasium, teaching each other a variety of dances and singing songs. Later, families moved into the third grade classrooms where students performed musical pieces both in solo and small groups. After the performances, the children taught their parents how to play the instruments! Everyone met back together in the gym for a final farewell song and dance.
I would like to thank Mrs. Pasqua and our 3rd Grade Teachers for making this such a fun and engaging evening for all of our families. Supporting the arts has always been a significant part of Western's culture, and we are thankful to have so many families who believe in our fine arts programming. Thank you to all who came to enjoy this evening. Go Wolves!

One District, One Book: "The Cricket in Times Square"
Written by George Selden in 1960, "The Cricket in Times Square" is a children's novel that tells the story of a cricket who accidentally travels to New York City and befriends a cat and a mouse while living in a newsstand in Times Square. "The Cricket in Times Square" won a Newbery Honor in 1961, and there is short video clip for your viewing below.
Western Avenue has a reading calendar along with trivia questions that homerooms will answer for the previous night's reading. We always give away little prizes to the winning homeroom for each day's trivia to make our reading fun! A very special thank you to Mrs. Mooney and Ms. Tobin for organizing our reading activities. Go Wolves!

Traffic Flow at Arrival and Dismissal
Parents, we understand that everyone is rushing to get their days started in the morning. However, we need to do a better job driving safely in the drop-off and pick-up lines. We have three staff members directing traffic at the front lot, two staff members posted at door I (primary playground), and multiple people posted at the playgrounds and blacktop area between the playgrounds. We also have one person stationed in the North parking lot. Please remember that there is a traffic flow. Students must be dropped off in the designated car lines. Please do not drop off your children on any other street or sidewalk other than the designated lines. Please do not wait in line to make sure your child walks to the door because that stops the flow for other parents behind you. And please be very mindful when you are pulling away from the car line. There should only be one priority for morning drop off and afternoon pick up--and that priority is the safety of all our kids at Western Avenue. If we all work together, we can ensure the safety of all students. Thank you!
Thank you for reading, and have a wonderful week!
