8th Grade Band Update
March 10, 2017
New Information and Reminders
KC Metro MS Band Festival
We had a great performance last Saturday! The students received a 1 rating from adjudicators which is considered an "Exemplary Performance"! I am very proud of these kids! They've worked hard and are ready for the next challenge. *See "Next Challenge" below.
I want to take a moment and thank you, the parents and guardians of these great kiddos. You've been great to support them at home and at school. They are fabulous kids who are very talented musicians. Thank you.
Next Challenge
Yes, Worlds of Fun, the land of roller coasters and water rides. But, on Saturday May 6th it begins with an adjudicated festival by world renown adjudicators made up of composers of music we've played and band directors of large out of state universities. This adjudicated festival is a tough one. The kids I are ready to take on the challenge.

10:00AM - Park Opens--Go Play! Students will travel in groups all day with a chaperone. Under NO circumstances should students travel alone at any point.
12:00-1:00PM - Designated sign out time -- kids and chaperones should travel as a group to the front of the park if needed; otherwise, they can play in the park
8:30 - Students & Chaperones meet outside front gate of park and head back to the buses. Designated sign out time with directors.
8:45 - Head to buses
9:30PM - Arrive Back at RPEMS (Please be on time to pick up your kiddos.)
Attire for the Day:
Students will wear their band polos and khaki/black shorts/skirts/pants for the performance to school. Students need to look nice. After the performance students will have separate changing tents for boys/girls and will be able to change into park clothes for the day. Students need to wear gym shoes (tennis shoes/running shoes) at the park all day. Also, students must wear school appropriate clothes in the park during the day.
What to Bring:
Students will need to bring cash for lunch and dinner. Food at the park is, unfortunately, expensive. Kids may bring cell phones; however, fair warning: if they lose their phones the park isn't the greatest at helping find them. In the 5 years I have been taking kids to this park, it has snowed one time in May (wish I was kidding). Students may want to bring a jacket. We will go rain or shine. Also SUNSCREEN SUNSCREEN SUNSCREEN!!!!!!
Leaving with Parents or Other Families: *See pick-up/take home policy below
Students may be picked up at these times:
- immediately after the performance outside front gate of park
- between 12 and 1Pm outside front gate of park
- prior to loading buses at the end of the evening outside the front gate of park
- at RPEMS
The reason for these specific pick up times is to protect time in the park for the kids and chaperones. Often times standing in line for rides can take a while and chaperones must escort the child needing to leave to the front of the park, forcing their entire group to get out of line. I want to eliminate losing time in the park by setting designated times to check out. All students must be signed out by a parent or guardian with a director.
Behavior:
Students are expected to be on their best behavior throughout the day, using manners and being polite and respectful. Failure to comply with these expectations will result in going home immediately, parents will be expected to pick up their child immediately at the park.
Fill Out This Form Below for Tickets
Sign-Out/Pick-Up Policy -- Slight Change, Please Read
Slight Change Here: A student's parent must contact Mr. Eric Arnold with a hand written note (ONLY) the week prior to any festival.
He will approve and then send me that information. Students WILL NOT be given permission the day of a festival to ride home with a different set or parents/guardians.
The students are a director's responsibility from the moment they arrive at school to the moment the leave. I am held liable for each one of them and I will not compromise their safety. **I WILL NOT allow students to leave with other parents/guardians unless prior approval has been granted from Eric.Arnold.
HS Band Booster Meeting
Fundraiser for Band Fees -- It's easy.
Mattress Sale Information
The sale is on Sunday, April 23rd. Let's start promoting now and make this a huge event! Tell your friends, family, neighbors and coworkers about the sale! Remember, we aren't selling, collecting money, delivering or filling out order forms... JUST PROMOTING!!! Because we understand not everyone is in the market for a new bed, this event relies on heavy promoting. We need everyone to find at least 2 people who need to replace a bed in their home and ask them to come to our sale!
We have a few things we need all of our Band families to do. It'll take just 5 minutes of your time.
1. Watch this brief Youtube video that explains the fundraiser. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h_pQ6O8aVus
2. Text RAYMORE to 913-210-0550 - Send the auto reply to your friends / family - 98% of text messages get opened and read!
3. Please get on the Facebook event page, check the "going" box and then use the "invite" function to invite all of your friends! https://www.facebook.com/events/236368273492372/
How does this work? On Sunday April 23rd, we will have a mattress showroom set up here at Ray-Pec High School from 10AM-5PM. There will be 28 floor models on display for customers to try.
