Self Reporting Link
When should I use the SELF-REPORTING form on the Allegan County HD website?
If you are reporting your child as a close contact from a source outside of school, that would be an appropriate instance to use the self-reporting tool. (Please remember that this is specific to Allegan county residents so if you live in Barry, Kent county, etc. you would not report via this link).
You do not need to use this if you are reporting a positive case to us as we will do the appropriate investigation and report the positive student along with any close contacts.

EMPATHY IS OUR SUPER POWER
Learning to understand and care about the feelings of others is one of the most important steps in a child’s development—and it’s never too early to help little ones build those skills. This beautifully illustrated storybook teaches young kids how to recognize and practice empathy through simple real-life scenarios that are easy for them to understand. It’s written with clear language for adults to read aloud and features discussion questions and activities that encourage kids to talk about what they learned and use it in their lives.
Empathy Is Your Superpower features:
- Empathy heroes—Little superheroes Emmanuel and Emma model easy, age-appropriate ways for kids to practice empathy every day.
- Ways to set a good example—Kids will learn to put themselves in someone else’s shoes, lend a helping hand, and inspire others to do the same.
- Using empathy for life—Tips, reflections, and games will help adults foster empathy in children for their whole lives.
Teach kids to be kind and considerate, with a fun and friendly book about the importance of empathy.
We have books available for parents. Please send a request to mailto:hoffmasters@waylandunion.org to request a book be sent home with your child.

Summer Programming For Grades K-8
Our previously planned programming has been expanded to June 21st-August 13th.
Programming will be held Mondays-Friday (no programming will be held on July 2nd or 5th) from 8 am -Noon at Steeby Elementary School. To Enroll click here:
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeQRJo92Wso1rBZ0c4S0UPhSB6we9EILWaYM_hFT6RmfZXZGQ/viewform
Students will be provided with transportation and meals. Students who were already enrolled in summer programming have been automatically enrolled in this new programming. There are still spots available, on a first-come, first-serve basis for K-5 families to sign up. Communication will be sent to families later this week. Sign-ups for Middle School students will happen through a separate process.
In addition to traditional classroom instruction on Language Arts and Math, students will attend assemblies and programming on science and social studies and potentially participate in field trips. Details are still in the works.
I am still looking for a few teachers and aides to fully staff our summer learning program. Please watch for official postings from Human Resources with directions for applying
There are many opportunities available to all students at WUS. Click the following link to see all opportunities available through Wayland Union Schools. https://www.smore.com/dy3be

Moving???
If your family has moved or will be moving over the summer and not attending Baker or Steeby Elementary next fall, please let us know as soon as possible. You can email Sally Hoffmaster at mailto:hoffmasters@waylandunion.org. As we begin to plan for the 2021/2022 school year, we need to know student counts so we can meet student needs for the upcoming year. We will also need time to process their records and get their files ready to send to the new school.
