A Message from the Principal
Dear Parents,
Parshat Miketz contains an interesting exchange between Pharaoh and Yosef. After Pharaoh tells Yosef, “they say you can explain people’s dreams”, Yosef responds over and over again that it is Hashem that helps him interpret the dreams. We can learn from this that although Yosef was on his own in Egypt, residing in a polytheistic society, he nonetheless stood strong and maintained great pride in his faith, never wavering in his belief in one G-d.
Just as Yosef remained resolute in his belief in Hashem despite extraordinarily challenging circumstances, so too the Maccabim were unyielding when their Judaism and faith in Hashem was under attack. The Maccabim stood up and said NO, we are proud to be Jews and we will fight to be able to observe our mitzvot and live our lives in accordance with Jewish law and tradition. The term “Maccabim” was an acronym for “Mi Kamocha B’elim Hashem” - “Who is like you, Hashem, among other gods?”
Morah Chana’s video began with the following powerful quote from Rav Kook. Rav Kook said that every person must know and understand that a unique candle, with its own distinct light, burns within us. No one’s candle is identical to the candle of another. Each of us must know and understand that we must strive to reveal the light from within and combine our lights into a great flame that will enlighten the whole world.
As we celebrate the holiday of Chanukah, let the candle that burns within each of us, both individually and collectively as a nation, inspire us and our children to further strengthen our relationship with Hashem.
Shabbat Shalom, Chanukah Sameach,
Mrs. Becky Troodler
