We LOVE JSE!
Good afternoon, JSE families,
Thank you to our PTO and JSE Famlies for bringing an incredible assembly to our school yeaterday! It was still the topic of conversation on the bus and at breakfast this morning!
We started our morning with breaking news from our JSE News broadcast! Mr. Smith informed us of our Words of the Week for this school year (WOW): Summary and Bland. Each week the JSE News will introduce the WOW words above to students and staff. We begin with an explanation of the word, model how to use the word in a sentence, and encourage use of the words throughout the week. According to Marzano and Pickering, leading United States educational researchers, “One of the key indicators of students’ success in school, on standardized tests, and indeed, in life, is their vocabulary" (Marzano & Pickering, 2005). With the understanding that vocabulary knowledge is an important factor in student learning and academic growth, we are excited to incorporate the WOW in all subjects and areas at JSE. Join us in using the words at home!
Common Sense Education provides a Top Picks, 24 tools for great vocabulary games, apps, and site. The website is below.
We gear up this week for fall party and trick or treating at JSE memories next Wednesday, the 27th before fall break. Classroom parties will look a little different this year. Teachers are organizing them and will be reaching out to parents if they need any donations. Just a reminder no school next Thursday and Friday for fall break!
Have a great week,
Mrs. Barnes
