AUTHOR VISITS WITH STUDENTS
November 10: David Shannon
David’s work has appeared in Time, Newsweek, Rolling Stone, and The New York Times. In 1988 he illustrated his first children’s book, How Many Spots Does a Leopard Have?, by Julius Lester. After illustrating several books by other authors, David was encouraged to write his own stories. His first book was How Georgie Radbourn Saved Baseball, which was named a New York Times Best-Illustrated Book in 1994. In 1999, the semi-autobiographical story, No, David!, received a Caldecott Honor. David has written and/or illustrated over 35 books for children.

November 10: Wendelin Van Draanen
Her other stand-alone titles include The Secret Life of Lincoln Jones, Swear to Howdy, and The Running Dream, which was awarded American Library Association’s Schneider Family Award for its "expression of the disability experience." She has two four-book series for younger readers. The Shredderman books feature a boy who deals with a bully and received the Christopher Award for “affirming the highest values of the human spirit.” The related Gecko & Sticky books, full of alluring alliterations that make for rousing read-alouds, are perfect for reluctant readers.

November 15: 8th Annual Parents' Author Brunch
MJS Librarian Tatiana Guyer will share her favorite “picks” for young readers, the best books of 2016. Renegade florist and author Louesa Roebuck will discuss her book, Foraged Flora: A Year of Gathering and Arranging Wild Plants and Flowers. Louesa's expertise in using locally sourced plants and flowers will be on display during a live floral arrangement demonstration. The morning will be full of friendship, inspiration and laughter, so mark your calendar, invite friends and family, and make your Parents' Author Brunch RSVP today. Brunch is $25/person, and will be catered by Trejo's Tacos.

Donuts with Dads & Special Friends!
This is a time-honored tradition for Mayfield dads and special friends to spend time with their students, enjoying morning snacks and drinks. Head into Book Fair in the HPAC with your family, pick up your Student Wish List(s), and pick out books for purchase. Donuts with Dads & Special Friends are divided by last name - November 16 (A-L) & November 17 (M-Z), 7-8 am. Dads and friends will receive a blessing during Morning Prayer.

The Library Committee is proud to announce this year's Book Fair theme pays tribute to Walt Disney's animation legacy. The Design-A-Bookmark Contest forms are available for K-8 students in the library. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners from each grade will get a pizza party and have the copies of their bookmarks distributed during Book Fair!

Hodgins Library is excited to host the 2nd Annual Book Club! Open to students in grades 1-6, this year's Book Club will be a three-part, after school series on February 13, March 13, and April 10. Snacks will be served at each meeting, with a Book Club Party on April 10, 2017. Book Club titles are the Dory Fantasmagory series by Abby Hanlon; Unusual Chickens for the Exceptional Poultry Farmer by Kelly Jones; Demon Dentist by David Walliams; and Our Teacher's a Vampire and Other True Stories by Mary Amato.
