Ms. Harris' Weekly Update
March 13th-March 17th
What's Going On This Week:
- Ms. Harris' Science: This week we will start our last big unit on "Weather." We will learn about the gases that make up the atmosphere and how the troposphere is where weather occurs. On Wednesday, we will get an Astronomy review, when the StarLab will be here. The traveling planetarium will allow us to explore how constellations change in the night sky.
- Ms. Shipp's Social Studies: We will have our quiz on the first section of notes (Lewis & Clark, Daniel Boone, Zebulon Pike, and the Louisiana Purchase) on Tuesday, March 14th. We will review for the quiz on Monday. We will start discussions on Motivations for migrating to the West as well as Land Acquisitions.
- Mrs. Leonard's Math: This week we are starting an introduction to geometry. We will be focusing on types of lines and classifying angles. There will be a quiz on Thursday.
- Mrs. Thurston's ELA/Math: This week we will start elapsed time. There will be a quiz either Thursday or the following Monday. In ELA, we are working on analyzing the mood and tone of a poem. In writing, we will be examining idioms and personification.
- Ms. Harris' GT ELA/Math: In math this week we will start Geometry. Students will learn about lines, points, angles, and polygons. There will be a short quiz on Friday. In ELA, we will continue learning about poetry and exploring imagery. Students will learn a strategy called "Sketch to Stretch" and use literature webs to help analyze different poems. On Tuesday, we will take our next Word of the Day quiz and on Friday will be our spelling test.
End of 3rd Quarter is Wednesday
Any missing work or requests to retest must be submitted by Wednesday. Report cards will go home next week.
Teacher Workday is Friday

Other Information:
- If you are interested in pre-ordering tickets to the Spring Dance on March 24th, please return the order forms and money to me. You can buy tickets at the door, but they are cheaper if you pre-order.
- Discovery Place StarLab is Wednesday. Students will get to experience a planetarium and see how the constellations move throughout the night sky.
- Thank you to everyone who has returned their Golf Field Trip forms and money. If you have not, please do so ASAP. More information will be coming home soon about this field trip.
