Sycamore Staff Vaccinations
All staff who have been vaccinated will receive their second dose of the vaccine during the weekend of March 6-7 and March 13-14. The district is looking at the operational impact and will determine if it is necessary to provide alternative plans for instruction in the days following our second dose distributions, should staff experience any potential side effects. We will communicate any changes to our schedule at a later time.
We would like to thank TriHealth for being our registered vaccination provider. This is truly an exciting moment for the Sycamore Family and certainly gives us hope for brighter days ahead.
Will Staff Vaccinations Have Any Impact on Health Protocols?
Just because our staff is receiving the COVID-19 vaccine, doesn't mean our Healthy Aves protocols will go away. Students and staff will still be required to wear masks, practice social distancing, and wash their hands frequently for the remainder of the 2020-21 school year.
According to the CDC, "Although COVID-19 vaccines are effective at keeping you from getting sick, scientists are still learning how well vaccines prevent you from spreading the virus that causes COVID-19 to others, even if you do not get sick. If you are vaccinated against COVID-19, you may still be exposed to the virus that causes COVID-19. After exposure, people can be infected with or “carry” the virus that causes COVID-19 but not feel sick or have any symptoms. Experts call this asymptomatic infection.”
While experts learn more about the protection that the COVID-19 vaccine provides under real-life conditions, it will be important for everyone to continue using all the tools available to us to help stop this pandemic.
Will Vaccinated Staff Still Need to Quarantine if Exposed to COVID-19?
- It’s been at least two weeks since you received your second vaccine dose,
- It’s been less than three months since you received your second vaccine dose, and
- You haven’t experienced any symptoms since your COVID-19 exposure.
You must meet all three to forgo a quarantine. If you don’t meet the above criteria, you should continue to follow current quarantine guidance, which currently means staying home for 14 days. If you do meet the criteria: Keep an eye out for COVID-19 symptoms in the 14 days following your exposure. If you start to experience symptoms, you should call your doctor and get tested.
These guidelines may change once more information about the vaccines becomes available, says the CDC.
