New Marking Period, New You ππ
Students completed a reflection for marking period 1 where they thought about their efforts academically and behaviorally. Students reflected on their class experience and determined goals for marking period 2. I encourage parents & guardians to review this assignment in Google Classroom and discuss with you student.
Reading
Use a variety of active reading strategies such as highlighting and/or underlining essential
information, making annotations, paraphrasing, and taking notes to help them process and understand a text
Articulate the purposes of research papers and presentations
Employ appropriate formatting for a research paper
Define, identify, and evaluate the effectiveness of poetic structures and forms (e.g. stanzas, sonnets, etc.)
Use reading strategies such as questioning, making inferences, and evaluating to understand the purpose and evaluate the validity of a research paper and/or presentation

Writing
In this unit, students will study a variety of nonfiction texts in order to write research based argumentative essays. In writing, students will read articles on the topic of their choice in order to write a position paper. The following are key 7th grade standards students will focus on:
Introduce a topic clearly, previewing what is to follow; organize ideas, concepts, and information, using text structures (e.g., definition, classification, comparison/contrast, cause/effect, etc.) and text features (e.g., headings, graphics, and multimedia).
Develop the topic with relevant facts, definitions, concrete details, quotations, or other information and examples.
Use appropriate transitions to create cohesion and clarify the relationships among ideas and concepts.
Use precise language and domain-specific vocabulary to inform about or explain the topic.
Establish and maintain a formal style academic style, approach, and form.
Provide a concluding statement or section that follows from and supports the information or explanation presented.
Draw evidence from literary or informational texts to support analysis, reflection, and research.
