The Running Titans cross country traveled to the East side of the County to compete in the Shelby County Invitational on Aug. 31st. The girls varsity team was led by junior Lilly Vest’s seventh place finish (21:52). Senior Mary Grace Vest was the second Titan across the finish line in 26th place.
The boys’ team improved significantly on their seventh place finish last year by scoring a low 98 points and finishing third out of 11 teams. The Titans were only three points behind second place Western Hills. Senior Nolan Thomas who was second through the two mile mark ended up 4th in a personal record 17:34. Senior Jeremy Yocum, who ran fairly even splits, was the second Titan scorer in 12th place. Cole Martens (30th), Jacob Ison (31st) and newcomer sophomore Kyle Acree (37th) rounded out the scoring for Collins.
Head Coach George Sanderlin said, “We got out of the blocks well with this season opener. Our athletes worked hard this summer on their own and at running camp. It is starting to show. Thomas has positioned himself as one of the top runners in the state and we look for even better things to come from both the girls and boys.”
The Running Titans travel to the Creasy Mahan Nature Preserve in Goshen on Sept. 7th to compete in North Oldham’s Rumble in the Jungle meet.
