5-Point Literacy Academic Focus
1. Integration of evidence based best practices across reading and writing
2. Instruction on the five fundamental components of reading
3. Instruction on the traits of writing
4. Student writing using sources
5. Tiered instruction
Professional Learning: K-2 Foundations
Schools that are implementing Istation, Compass Learning Odyssey, Saxon Phonics, Write Source, and Open Court (funded by the district through Race to the Top) will be offered another round of professional learning on Saturday, January 31, from 8:30-3:30 PM at the Campbell Building. More detailed information will be emailed to both coaches and principals.

In preparation for our February meeting, read Part I (chapters 1-9) of the Writing Pathways text by Lucy Calkins.
Spelling Bee Update
The District Spelling Bee will be held on February 2, 2015 at Maynard Jackson High School at 4:00 PM. Be sure provide your school representative with the 2015 Spell It guide found on the Scripps student resources webpage. There will be a vocabulary round this year so ensure your speller is prepared!
