THIS AND THAT
Fall Festival
Thank you to all the members of the CCS Community who helped organize today’s Fall Festival. The weather could not have been more perfect as we enjoyed outstanding performances from our choir and jazz band students, engaged in various teacher-led activities, took small walks through the garden and campus, went on a story walk, decorated with chalk, and celebrated all of our fall athletic coaches.
November All-School Meeting
Another big thank you goes to our Alpha 6 Team for hosting this month’s All-School Meeting this morning. We received an update on our PBIS penny collection efforts and learned that students at CCS have earned their first school-wide reward of the year. Next week they will be voting on one of three possible ways to celebrate their successes in taking care of ourselves, each other and this place. Alpha 6 members then led the school through a giant game of Rock, Paper, Scissors, Go!
Heidi Huestis
Congratulations to Heidi Huestis, our CCS librarian, who has been selected as one the 2022 UVM Outstanding Educators of the Year. We will celebrate Heidi at UVM on the afternoon of November 9.
CCS Musical
We are still looking to hire someone to direct our CCS musical this year. If you or someone you know might be interested, please reach out to us.
Garden Update
Thank you to Dierdre Holmes who has continued to take care of our CCS garden this fall. She organized a garden work party in October, and she recently worked to have two new benches installed for students, staff and community members to enjoy. Thank you also to the family and community members who were able to join Dierdre in these efforts.
LOST AND FOUND OVERLOWING WITH OUTER WEAR
The Lost and Found is once again overflowing. Water bottles and outerwear from the playground recess times seem to be what filled it up so quickly this week. Please have your child(ren) check the lost and found for any missing items. The lost and found is located in the front lobby vestibule and parents are encourage to check it out anytime during school hours.
ADMINISTRATION UPDATE
Dear CCS Families, Caregivers and Community Members,
This has been a busy and fulfilling week! Our CCS precepts are resonating in everything we are doing.
At CCS, we take care of ourselves, we take care of others, we take care of this place.
Check out some of our photos that capture the wonders of our school.
We take care of ourselves;
** Throughout the building students are developing their skills for self-advocacy to meet their physical, emotional and academic needs- taking a walk, grabbing a snack, quiet space to read or write, help with a math problem.
**Handwashing is being encouraged regularly to keep students healthy.
We take care of others;
**Classrooms in CCS grades K-4 are gathering donations for the Thanksgiving Food baskets has been a tradition for many years as we partner with our local food shelf to gather the necessary fixings for members of our community.
** Volunteers helped our second grade learners take a beautiful hike up Pease Mountain to explore the great outdoors right in our backyard.
**Whether taking in the music performed by our CCS band or playing team sports with classmates and teachers, this afternoon’s Fall Festival was a hit. We sent out a huge shout of appreciation to our Essential Arts educators- Nicky Elderton, Matt Kent, Monica Littlefield, Andy Smith, Steve Flint, Christy Sharp, and Heidi Huestis for their time and energy in creating experiences that meet all of the interests of all of our students.
**The fall athletic season has come to an end with a handful of students participating in last weekend’s XC State meet. Without our dedicated coaches who lead these cocurricular activities after their day of teaching, these opportunities would not be possible. We thank our Coaches- Cross Country: Dave Baird & Brian Loughlin; Girls Soccer: Nicky Elderton & Meghan Powell; Boys Soccer: Doug Pierson, Mike Dinicola & Andrew Lounsbury
We take care of this place.
** Omega students in Matt Kent and Amy Sayre’s wellness rotation - spent a couple of classes talking about what it means to be a part of a community - what it looks, feels, sounds like. "Community" can be school, town, state. Then students took time to plan and implement a project to care for their community. Sample projects have included:
- Fundraiser for CCS Library
- fundraiser for Humane Society
- Reading to first grade students
- Volunteering for Vermont Adaptive Sports
- Food/Supplies drive for Human Society
- Food drive for Charlotte Food Shelf
- Collecting children's books and toys for UVM Children's Center
- Presentation to 3rd graders about composting and recycling
- Writing letters to seniors in isolation
We hope you all have a safe and restful weekend.
All the best,
Jen, Courtney and Beth

LET'S TALK!
Last March, the school district softly rolled out a new communication tool called Let's Talk. Let’s Talk makes it easy for parents, students, staff, and community members to ask questions, request information, and share feedback. Over the summer, we added topics for each of our schools. See this blog post to learn more and view a short video that explains how easy it is to use Let's Talk.
STRATEGIC PLANNING
We recently held a number of strategic planning community forums to gain insight from all members of our community and inform the district's work over the next 5 years. We have extended the deadline for the strategic planning survey to November 11. We hope to hear from even more community members, staff, and students! https://bit.ly/CVSDOct22

CVU THEATER PRESENTS: AMELIE - NOVEMBER 11TH - 13TH
Join us in Paris….via the CVU main stage…for Amélie.
Amélie is an extraordinary young woman who lives quietly in the world but loudly in her mind. She covertly improvises small but surprising acts of kindness that bring joy and mayhem. But when a chance at love comes her way, Amélie realizes that to find happiness she’ll have to risk everything and say what’s in her heart. Be inspired by this imaginative dreamer who finds her voice, discovers the power of connection, and sees possibility around every corner.
Showtimes are Friday, November 11th at 7pm, Saturday, November 12th at 2pm and again at 7pm, and Sunday, November 13th at 2pm at the CVU theater. Purchase tickets ahead of time online at: https://www.ticketsource.us/cvutheater or at the door the day of the performance. Be sure to check the ticket site to see if the show is sold out. $10 General Admission; $8 Students/Children/Staff. All ages show.
