Author Roland Smith!
On March 28th, author Roland Smith will be visiting Hawthorn in the afternoon! He will be putting on two presentations, one for lower elementary and one for upper. I have been promoting his books for the past few months and many of our kids have tried out a book or two of his. This makes his visit much more exciting for our students. There's still plenty of time for your family to dig into one of his books together! They make excellent read alouds and are full of adventure. We will have some books of his for sale next month and if a student purchases one before his visit he will sign it the day he's here! More info on this will come closer to the time. http://www.rolandsmith.com/
Black History Month
We have been studying African American history all month in library. I have really enjoyed all of the thought provoking conversations we have had in every class, kindergarten through 5th. It's evident how far we have come as a country when we see how perplexed kids are by "the way things used to be." I hope that bringing light to our uncomfortable history has helped build compassion and tolerance in our kids.
Book Fair
Our book fair will be held March 28-31. This coincides with our Spring Showcase evening event. More information will come home next month and we hope to see you there!
