WMS Weekly Bulletin
March 25-30, 2019
Before we opened WMS, I sat down to create a list of qualities for the adults in our building to aspire to (see right). I ended up using this list during hiring season as a litmus test for every educator we hired. I have since consulted this list when I needed to make mid-year staffing decisions or measure the quality of our professional development to make sure we are doing everything we can to enhance the learning environment for our scholars.
Over the course of this school year, administrators from across the district have worked to identify the characteristics we are looking for in our CSISD educators. The idea was the same as our WMS list: to capture what we hope to achieve for every classroom.
Here is the finalized CSISD Educator Profile:
Builds Positive Relationships and Learning Environment
- Values individual differences
- Focuses on the needs of the whole child
- Is joyful, patient, flexible, nurturing, a great listener, fair, and compassionate
- Cultivates an enriching, safe environment where students feel comfortable to speak and share
- Values and builds relationships with students, families, and other staff
Communicates and Collaborates Effectively
- Promotes and partakes in positive, open, clear communication while maintaining composure
- Collaborates positively with all stakeholders in the best interest of all students
- Exhibits flexibility and empathy while focusing on solutions that respect multiple perspectives
- Takes initiative to help colleagues and is trustworthy
Embraces Learning
- Has high expectations for self and students
- Inspires students and colleagues to explore and learn
- Has students create their own goals
- Models growth mindset and continuous improvement
- Seeks professional learning opportunities to enhance instruction and remain current
- Engages in, designs, and facilitates a quality balanced learning environment that reflects our ever-changing digital world
Works with Passion and Commitment
- Passionate about students’ learning and maintains high expectations and high efficacy
- Is innovative and works to find strategies to improve student performance based on data
- Ignites students’ curiosity and passion
- Demonstrates intellectual curiosity, imagination, and creativity
- Takes risks, persists in the fact of challenge and adversity and learns from failure
- Maintains high student interest and engagement in learning
Creates a Digital Learning Environment
- Leverages technology seamlessly in instruction to enhance the learning experience
- Uses a variety of technology hardware and software to manage the classroom, give timely feedback, and increase engagement
- Incorporates technology into lessons that bring reciprocal partnerships into the classroom to enhance and give broader perspective on learning
When I compare these qualities with those of our WMS Educator Profile, we are directly in line with our district profile. We will use our Wellborn qualities to help guide us through our mission and vision statement work (coming soon!) in addition to updating our Campus Improvement Plan for next year.
My goal for both the WMS profile and CSISD profile are for them to be used frequently as a measure of excellence for our building and to ensure we are doing everything we can to create the best possible outcomes for our scholars and ourselves.
Go Warhawks! And, remember, you belong here.

Safety Expectation Reminders
Wear Identification badges
Challenge any individuals without a visitor’s badge and escort them to the office for obtaining one
Keep exterior doors locked and closed when not monitored
Don’t allow access to visitors other than through the security vestibule and office
Keep classroom doors “locked and propped” so that a simple swinging closed of the door will latch and lock it
Take lockdown drills seriously and make sure lights in classrooms are turned off, cell phones are turned off, and everyone stays quiet
Keep a close watch during outdoor activities and don’t allow strangers to interact with students
NJHS Info for 7th Grade and Elective Teachers
You will be receiving several emails from Mrs. Hagerman in regards NJHS for the 2019-2020 school year. (Hagerman apologizes in advance for the number of emails that you will receive).
The email will ask for you to fill out a teacher survey (via a google form) for specific scholars who you currently teach. Please be thoughtful in your responses as this will help determine if scholars are accepted into the WMS NJHS organization. Hagerman is requesting that all forms be submitted to her by this Friday, March, 29th.
Lastly, if you received envelopes from Mrs. Hagerman or Mrs. Miles on Friday and were unable to deliver them to the appropriate scholars please do so on Monday. The envelopes contain NJHS forms that are needed by this Friday as well.
Thank you all so much for your assistance and patience!

Discipline Reminders
There are two methods available in which to handle these situations:
1) if a student has reached a point where their behavior is significantly impacting the other scholars in class or you are unable to instruct, they may be sent to the office. Please notify Ms. Corbitt or Ms. Deberry of the scholar's name who is coming to the office.
2) if the behavior is not such that it requires removal from the class, please write a referral in TAC and an administrator will address the matter in a timely fashion. These two option choices are the most efficient course of action to address behaviors beyond your own classroom behavior policies.

Digital Citizenship: Fair Use
Schoology: NEW Text-to-Speech
This is a great way to help students prepare if they are taking the online version of STAAR and is also a great option for students who need to have tests and quizzes read aloud to them. It is often difficult for the teachers in content mastery to read multiple versions of tests aloud, but if you upload the assessment to schoology, it makes it much easier for all students to get their accommodations.
