Student Surveys: Please plan to discuss this in your grade level PLC this week (3-5 only)
The survey should be administered to 3rd through 12th grade students. SCDE and AdvancED have developed an information website that provides a survey administration training video, an administration guide, sample administration scripts, and other resources. This website can be accessed here: www.advanc-ed.org/scde. Additional details will be provided next week.
As we have learned in the past, attention to and administration of these surveys are critical. It will be important that clear direction, monitoring, and follow-through exists with our faculty and staff members. Please know our team is here to assist you in any way. One Team…One Mission…One Rock Hill! Thanks for all that you do.
WORD NERDS- Yes, that's YOU!
Our school trend data shows that VOCABULARY is a weakness for our kids- we see it daily. Read Word Nerds with me and let's learn what we can do to target this deficit and grow our students' word power!
- learn what research tells us about teaching vocabulary so our kids can REMEMBER and USE it
- design how it look in YOUR classroom
- 1x/week for 4 weeks
- 8 hours recertification credit!
Email Marco if interested- starting soon!
Yearbooks
Please remember to email or text Tanner and/or Sara pictures of your class for the yearbook. Six or seven good pictures will fill up your class' page nicely.

Safety Meeting
Committee Goals and Concerns
· Shoutout to everyone for carrying their red bags and radios around the building and to recess. If you need any supplies for your red bag, please let Rhonda Cranford know as soon as possible.
· Encourage one another to work on Safe School videos. Our school gets money when everyone watches their videos on time. Some staff members may have new videos added during February.
· Encourage everyone to close and lock their doors when they leave their classrooms.
o This also applies to adults who have a master key who pick up students.
o Do not prop exterior doors open. Adults should have a key card to get into these doors.
o Continue to keep the stage door closed (across from Ms. Lake’s room).
o The conference room door across from the boy’s bathroom on B Hall should also be locked.
· During fire drills, please make sure to use the closest possible exit.
o Take attendance as soon as you get outside. Showing your red card means you are missing students or have extra students. Showing your green card means that your students are accounted for.
o A Zone Zero voice is important for fire drills. We have to time our fire drills. Talking slows this process down and increases our time.
o There are concerns about adults checking on zones during fire drills in a timely manner. The kindergarten and first grade playground waited quite a while before being checked on in recent fire drills. There has been a suggestion to have adults go around once evacuated to say who they have “extra.” This may help to account for students who are “missing” in a more efficient manner. It was also suggested that Sara Sawczuk take on the responsibility of checking parts of D Hall; this would allow her to go onto the first and second grade playground more quickly.
· Ensure that everyone has the essential information in their clipboards.
o Safe Seven cards (red and green cards)
o emergency numbers and rosters (for reunification)
o Emergency Care Plans and health issues from Rhonda Cranford
· Nurse Cranford completed CPR training with twelve teachers on February 5th. If a student or teacher were to need CPR in a real situation, a call for a “CODE BLUE” will be made over the walkie talkie or intercom. All CPR certified staff members should report to the location to help. Mrs. Rasmusson and Mrs. Clark will be responsible for getting the AED off of E Hall. Teachers not responding should help monitor other classes.
· We may also need to discuss tornado drills and lockdown in high traffic areas (outside of your classroom). Teachers are concerned about what to do in these large areas with a large number of students.
· We may also need to look into creating a handout for substitutes that details evacuation procedures or a quick overview of emergency protocol (earthquake, lockdown, fire drill, etc.). Substitutes are often confused during these drills because procedures are not left in sub plans. Consider using Safe Seven cards with an updated evacuation map of the school.
· New arrival and dismissal is much safer and more efficient.
· If you need extra car tags or walker tags, please request them from Mrs. Brown in the office.
