Our Vision
Our Lady of Fatima Palmyra is a Catholic School that aspires to
provide a respectful, secure and caring learning environment
where our community is committed to following
the teachings of Jesus.
From the Principal
Dear Parents,
We have come to the end of another school year and it is an opportunity to reflect on what has been a fantastic year. Your child will have brought home their report on Wednesday afternoon. I strongly recommend going through your child’s report with them and celebrating their successes and gently pointing out perhaps where teachers have suggested improvements. Please be mindful that children develop at their own rates and to their own capability. The grades in the report should not be the sole focus but that we need to reflect on their effort and the comments that teachers make. Having read through all of the reports over the last week and a half, it has been extremely pleasing to see such strong effort and pleasing growth and progress of our students. They should be very proud of their hard work.
Last week we kicked off our Christmas celebrations with the Pre Primary assembly and Kindergarten performance. They were both fantastic events that highlighted the story of Jesus’ birth as well as how we celebrate as families and a community. Congratulations to all the students who took part and a big thank you to the teachers and EAs who put in so much effort to bring these events to life.
Last Wednesday members of the community got together for the Annual General Meeting. It was an opportunity to hear from the Board, school and P&F about the year that has been and projections for the future. For those that were unable to attend and are interested, I have attached my principal’s report in a link below. We have 2 departing board members, Clory Carrello and Rob Barkla. We thank them for all the time and effort they have put into supporting the school. Coming on to the Board will be Karen Jones and Natasha Goncalves. Thank you ladies for taking on this role. Stepping down from the P&F Presidency is Leanne Williams. She has done a fantastic job of bringing the community and parent body together and we thank her for her service. The P&F President and Vice President positions are still vacant.
Monday night saw the community celebrate together and gather on the school oval for our Carols & EduDance Concert. It was a fantastic evening where the children got to showcase their dancing and singing skills. The relaxed atmosphere and positivity in the crowd was a great way to begin our final week of school. Well done to all the children who performed. I would also like to thank the ladies of the P&F who organised pizzas, the raffle and the car bay auction. They were able to raise in excess of $1600 which is a fantastic result.
Today we celebrated mass as a community to conclude the year and farewell our departing students and staff. This was followed by a morning tea and then the graduation ceremony. It was a lovely ceremony in the Our Lady of Fatima church. The graduating students received their certificates and a showbag to mark the end of their time in primary school. Leaving us at the end of this year is Mrs Brooke Fraser-Dewar. She will be taking up the role of Early Years Coordinator at Aquinas College. Brooke has been a teacher at Our Lady of Fatima for 19 years, during which time she has taught a range of years and taken on a variety of roles. She is exceptional at her job and over the last few years I have had the privilege of working along side her in the office whilst she has been our Early Childhood Curriculum Coordinator. Brooke’s nurturing yet professional manner has seen her students blossom under her guidance and she will be missed by staff, students and the community alike. We wish her all the best for the future.
We also wish Mrs Burwood an enjoyable break as she takes twelve months leave. Pauline is extremely dedicated to her support role and we have seen fantastic growth from students as a result. She will spend her hard-earned break with her family and grandchildren. We look forward to having you back in 2021.
Finally, I would like to wish the entire Fatima community a joyful and safe holiday break. Enjoy the time with your loved ones celebrating the meaning of Christmas. Thank you for all of the support I have received whilst acting principal, I have thoroughly enjoyed the role. Good luck to all our leaving families and we look forward to seeing everyone back for another fantastic year in 2020.
