Note from Police Chief Fisher
The Gooding County Fair and Rodeo is almost here. There is expected to be a large turnout of contestants so parking will be an issue. Expect for the rear entry off of Colorado to be closed at the railroad tracks except for rodeo contestants.
School will also be starting right after Fair week. There will be changes to parking and so forth at the schools so be prepared for new patterns and be aware of children on the way to school and back home.
The City will also be enacting a new ordinance for parking which is nearly complete at this time. While it may seem that there are big changes, most of the ordinance is more forgiving than those ordinances it replaces. High notes are that there will be no on street parking for trailers, large vehicles, semi-trucks and trailers unless loading or unloading on Main Street. Other city streets will have a few exceptions. Storage of trailers on city streets will be forbidden. Citations will be given to the operator of the vehicle, if known, or issued to the registered owner, with fines starting at $25.00 and must be paid within 5 days at City Hall. If not, the fines will be forwarded to magistrate court at the standard fine rate according to Idaho Code. This could mean a fine of $46.50 or more, depending on the violation.
If you are not sure where to park, keep in mind that in most cases, anything street-side of a sidewalk or public utilities is in the right of way, otherwise defined as a street. Those vehicles not permitted to park on the street must be parked fully on private property. Junk vehicles and trailers, or those not registered, must be placed in an enclosed building or behind a solid fence so as to not be visible from outside of the property, including alleys. If you have a junk vehicle, check Facebook for junk car removal. There are a number of businesses, some here in Gooding, that will pay you for your junk or unwanted vehicle. Give them a call and let them pay you to clean up your property and our city.
Thank you,
Chief Fisher
Gooding Lions Club Raffle
The Gooding Lions Club will be selling raffle tickets for an awesome Pendelton Blanket at the Gooding Rodeo! We will be located next to the fountain, east of the stands. Each year Gooding Lions Club raises money and volunteers their time to help our community and surrounding communities. Lions Club helps screen students for possible vision issues, collects used glasses and donates them to vision facilities that install the needed correction and re-distributes them to people in need, donates money to the IESDB hearing program to help purchase loaner hearing aids for students, and we also offer scholarships for individuals in need of vision related medical needs.
City Park Vandalism
Vandalism is on the rise in our community! The restrooms at the West Park have been vandalized three times in July. If you know who is responsible, the City will pay a $50 reward leading to the conviction of the guilty person or persons. Contact the Gooding Police Department if you have any information. This vandalism costs you, the taxpayers, money!
