Walker Elementary
August 21-25, 2023
Dear Walker Families,
Our Wildcats had the best first week back at school. They worked hard, played hard, and made great choices. We are off to the right start and looking forward to a great year. This newsletter contains all of the links shared in the back to school newsletter in case you missed something. Please read over each link to ensure that you don't miss any important information. Our job is to serve your child and your family! We are so excited to see our Wildcats back at school. Please let us know if you have questions or need help.
Thank you for your partnership,
Mrs. Lynn Ryan, Principal, lryan@sdale.org
Mrs. Katherine Wilson, Assistant Principal, kwilson3@sdale.org
School Hours
Our school office hours will continue to be from 7:00 am - 4:30 pm. Our school day will start at 7:45 am every day. On Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays students will be dismissed at 3:10 pm. On Wednesdays, students will be dismissed at 1:50 pm to allow staff time to meet in teams. More information about this change can be found below including an informational video.
Arrival Procedures
All students in kindergarten through fifth grade will need to be in their classes ready to learn by 7:45. All students will need to unload from the passenger's side of the car (no exceptions). This ensures that we do not have children walking in the area where cars drive. Please have your child unbuckled with their backpack on and ready to hop out of the car when you stop Adults may not get out of the car during our drop-off. Parents can not park and walk their child to the crosswalk unless they are a pre-k parent who needs to sign your child in.
Arrival and Dismissal
Students may be dropped off between 7:15 and 7:44. Students are tardy if not in class at 7:45 am. Students who are tardy will need to be checked in by a parent using our online form. Dismissal of students begins at 3:10 pm. If you do not have your car tag hanging from your mirror, you will need to pick up your child in the office and show your ID.
Walkers will be walked to the crosswalk and helped across the street. Duty staff do not walk students any further than our campus. Car riders must be picked up by 3:20 or you will need to make arrangements with our ASP program for child care.
Your child may be eligible for free or reduced-price meals based on your income or your eligibility for SNAP benefits. Apply online at schoolcafe.com or upload the School Café app to your smartphone
or use the link below to go directly to the site. Paper copies of the Free & Reduced Lunch forms will be sent home on Monday.
What is a brain start smart?
Dr. Bailey's Conscious Discipline Brain Smart Start consists of four activities designed to get children and adults in the optimal brain state for learning and problem-solving. These components include an activity to Unite, an activity to Disengage Stress, an activity to Connect and an activity to Commit.
