How You Can Gain Clarity on Your
Designer's Image
The designer's image is certainly the single most important thing that determines the success or failure in the fashion industry. It can make the difference between creating a brand that everyone loves to wear and one that only a few people are able to enjoy.
The image of designers themselves have come under scrutiny in recent years due to certain scandals. Due to these scandals designers have had to downplay their image and recreate it in their own minds. However, this does not mean that they should hide their true talent and creativity anymore.
In recent years, the fashion industry has changed drastically, and designers have had to re-think their image and how they portray themselves. For instance, it used to be the rave culture of the seventies where outrageous designs and gaudy colors ruled the industry.
However, as this trend changed so did the image of designers. Nowadays, when you walk down the street you would more than likely see a very conservative looking man wearing a pink and black combination t-shirt and sneakers.
However, if you were to look at the designer's image in the past and see a younger man wearing the same clothing you would be hard pushed to find anything out of the ordinary about them.
There is no reason why designers cannot come up with exciting and new ideas. The only issue is that they often get themselves caught up in trying to create an image for their business that is unrealistic and out of reach for smaller businesses. This causes them to compromise their true talents which is very damaging to the reputation of the fashion industry. A good designer should always be able to create something beautiful even if it is just for his own collection.
The designer's image is also dependent upon the type of fashion that they are involved in. Fashion designers for instance will have to carefully consider what type of collection they create. Most designers will only do high end, well-known brands as they are the ones who will have access to the best materials and the biggest market base. However, smaller designers who start off as part-time hobby designers will not have this luxury.
If you are a small local business, you will probably be limited to offering your services to the market that is within 500m of your store.
This means that the fashion industry must cater for a whole host of different customers. This is a big feat in any industry and designers are no different. One thing that designers can do to improve their image is to offer their services to those who are not within the 500m vicinity. This is especially important when it comes to creating menswear.
Men will almost always buy an item from designers that they consider to be of a classier nature and who therefore create higher quality products.
This does not mean however that designers cannot improve their image. There are many ways in which you can improve your design skills and you can do this in your own business. You may want to consider setting up your own label or you could even work for a larger fashion label.
There are also freelance websites where designers can showcase their work. The internet also provides many opportunities for social networking with other fashion industry insiders, which is very valuable.
When considering how you will improve your design skills, one of the main things you will have to do is look at yourself in the mirror. Are you happy with your design skills? If you are not happy with what you are doing, then you will not enjoy what you do.
Therefore, taking some time out to look at yourself in the mirror can be so important. Designer clothes for men do not come cheap but they are worth it. If you are happy with your designs, then you will be more likely to continue designing them in the long term.
Although there is always room for improvement, it is important that you remain true to yourself. When you work for a designer, you are expected to look the part. Your image must be a positive reflection of the company and its values. If you work in an office or do freelance work and are unhappy with your design skills, then you should speak up about it and no one will hold it against you.
