Library News!

What’s the Big Idea?

During the month of December, we will be learning about how to find and use reliable information. Here's how that will look for each group:

  • K-1 students will be learning about the difference between fact and opinion as we read Fact vs. Opinion vs. Robots, and they will be able to tell the difference between a fiction book and a non-fiction book.
  • Students in grades 2-3 will review fact, opinion, fiction, and non-fiction, and they will learn about two databases where they can find information: Pebble Go Next and Lightbox.
  • Students in grades 4-5 will do a short research project on a topic of their choice. During the project, they will utilize databases and begin thinking about how to tell which web sites are reliable places to find information.

Pershing is Hosting a SGCL Story Walk

December 7 -- 20, Springfield Greene County Library will have a StoryWalks® installation placed outside near Pershing. Pages of Our Little Kitchen, by Jillian Tamaki, will be displayed on signs along our school's sidewalks, so families can read the book, page by page, as they walk. We hope you will come to see the installation and experience reading, moving, and enjoying the outdoors!

Technology Support

Ms. Ebert is available to help with tech issues. You can send her an email at mlebert@spsmail.org.

Computer science education week will be December 12 through the 18th. We will be exploring different coding projects in computers that week.

Website of the Month: CodeMonkey

CodeMonkey is a fun and educational game-based environment where kids learn to code without any prior experience. After completing CodeMonkey's award-winning coding courses, kids will be able to navigate through the programming world with a sense of confidence and accomplishment. There are a few programs that children can play for free. But to get the full course catalog one would need a monthly subscription.

Why join PTA?

The Pershing PTA advocates for the students and teachers of Pershing Elementary. This organization supports Pershing teachers through classroom grants, back to school gifts, providing meals during back to school and parent-teacher conference times. Our PTA provides funds for class field trips, and hosts many family events.

It costs $10.00 to join PTA. You are not obligated to donate your time just because you sign up. This small amount of money quickly adds up to support our small school. Grandparents and other family members are welcome to join and support the PTA! Each dollar goes toward Pershing Elementary.

Our Pershing PTA would love your involvement as much as you wish to help. This is a great way to show your child you support their school.

If you wish to know more just ask a PTA Board Member!
