Spelling Bee!

G-R-E-A-T J-O-B to our Fletcher Spelling Bee team. They competed March 14 at the Kiwanis Annual Spelling Bee and they represented our school well. These students faced enormous pressure to spell some very difficult words in front of an auditorium full of people. We should all be proud of their hard work and thank you to Kristin Garrett and Heather Kennedy for coaching these amazing kiddos!

Interested in some of the words students were given during the spelling bee? Here is a small sample: prudence, copious, heirloom, perishable, vagrancy, codger, dinghy, brevity, causative, bafflement, oriole, inaudible, associate.

STEM Fair

Thank you to Mrs. Patton, the STEM Fair Committee, and PTO for putting together an incredible STEM Fair once again. Students did a great job presenting their very impressive inventions to their peers, parents, and others who attended, including School Board Member Lisa Edwards and her husband. The whole night was an incredible example of 21st century skills on display!

We also need to thank Cindy Norman for teaching students about beekeeping, the Flat Rock Playhouse for letting us talk with Benjamin Franklin, The Science House, Bricks 4 Kidz, and Hands On! for providing activities for our students. I know I am already looking to next year's STEM Fair!

Storyworks and a videoclip of Rick DuFour

Heidi Manuel shared StoryWorks in a recent PLC meeting and it is definitely worth checking out. This may be a resource we could use remediation funds to purchase if it looks worthwhile to a grade level. Take some time to look over this resource and what it has to offer.

Also, many of you have already seen this Rick DuFour video either as a member of SIT or as a PLC leader. If you haven't watched it before, please do because it's short but gets to heart of a PLC and if you have seen it, feel free to watch again!
