May is such an exciting month at Gudith!

This month we celebrate a very important group of people - our teaching staff!

On Tuesday, May 2nd, we honored our teachers on National Teacher Appreciation Day! Our exceptional staff works tirelessly to make a difference in the lives of our children. I thank them for the dedication and professionalism they show every day. Our Gudith staff truly care about our students and go above and beyond each and every day. Please take the time this month to send your child’s teacher a note of appreciation on this very special day.

The wonderful spring weather is the perfect opportunity to spend family time together outside. Encourage your children to leave behind video games and the television and get active. A healthy body leads to a healthy mind. Your child will feel better and perform better in school.

Best Wishes,

Mr. Martin

This year, the Woodhaven Brownstown School District is excited to bring back the Think Stretch Program. Think Stretch will encourage your child to spend a few minutes each day to retain what they’ve learned this school year.

Summer Meet-Ups will provide accountability to keep your child motivated to learn. Students will earn a ticket for each completed week in their Think Stretch book to enter in drawings for awesome prizes.

Each meet-up will have a fun activity, a chance to win prizes, a summer treat, and best of all playtime with friends as they check in with their Think Stretch books.

All Meet Ups will be held at one of our elementary schools. Please see the schedule for locations, dates, and times.

We look forward to meeting up with everyone!

Morning Line Up and Afternoon Pick Up Proceedures

Big picture

When dropping off and picking up students, we ask you to observe the following safety procedures:

Drop Off:

  • The drop-off lane is open.

  • This is our KISS & GO ZONE. Pull up next to the sidewalk to let your student out of your vehicle from the passenger side ONLY.

  • Please do not drop off your students in the parking lot or the second lane of traffic.

  • If your student needs assistance exiting the car, you MUST park your car in the lot and walk your student to the front of the school to ensure a safe crossing from the parking lot.

  • Students should not be permitted to walk past parked or moving cars unescorted.

  • Y5-K-1-2nd graders will have outdoor lineup locations marked by teacher names.

  • 3-4-5 grade students will line up outside at their classroom doors.

Pick Up:

  • Our Y5-K-1-2 graders who are getting picked-up will be escorted to their outside staging locations. Parents should pick up your student from these staging areas.

  • 3-4-5 Graders will exit from their classroom doors. All 3-4-5 classrooms are by the patio

  • You may meet your child at their classroom doors or staging location and escort them to your car

  • No student will be allowed to leave the sidewalk unescorted.

  • Do not call your student to your car if you are parked in the main lot

Early Pick Up

  • Please come into the office to sign out your student!

  • Anyone who picks up your child MUST be on your Emergency Contact List.

    • You can update your emergency contacts by logging into Parent Portal.

  • If you must pick up your student early, plan to pick them up prior to 3:30 pm, however, every effort should be made to alleviate this growing issue by honoring the school schedule.

Attendance Counts!

Children can only thrive in school if they are present in school. Listed below are our definitions of and policies about attendance.

Absence—any day that a student misses school. REMOTE OR IN-PERSON

  • Late arrivals - After 10:00 am the student will be marked absent for the morning.

  • Early Dismissal - before 3:00 pm in the student will be marked absent for the PM.

Excused AbsenceAny medically documented absence, funeral days, or court date will not be counted against the student.

Excessive Absences:

  • If a child accumulates 10 absences in a school year, the building administrator will send a letter to inform the parent/guardian

  • If the child reaches 15 absences in a school year the building administrator will inform the local police department of a potential truancy issue.

  • The police department will then contact or visit the child’s home to discuss the truancy with the parents.

  • If the absences reach 20 in a school year, according to law, referrals must be made to the Local Police Department and possibly, the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office.

*Parents are encouraged not to take their children out of school for vacations. Vacation days are considered unexcused.

TARDIESarrives late for leaves early from school and missing LESS than 55 minutes of school time

Let's Celebrate!

As we return to celebrating birthdays and other special events at school, please follow these guidelines:

  • Be sure to make arrangements with your student's teacher PRIOR to sending in treats!
  • ALL food treats must be individually wrapped and commercially packaged, with nutritional and ingredient information included.
  • Students should bring their treats with them to school - OR - they can be dropped off in the office to be delivered to the classroom.
  • In order to promote healthy choices for all students, we ask you to consider NON-FOOD treats such as pencils, stickers, or small trinkets.

Please know that whether a treat is sent in or not, we will be sure to make each student feel very special on their day!
