Back to School Edition
We're Back!
In just a few days we will join together again as a staff. In this newsletter you will find helpful information about start times, agendas, and events that will take place during the first week back to work!
A continental breakfast will be served on Monday in the student dining room beginning around 8:00 a.m.
Return to Work Information:
- All teachers report to work on Monday at 8:00 a.m.
- Pre School Teaching Assistants report to work on Monday at 7:30 a.m.
- CTU PSRPs report to work on Monday at 7:45 a.m.
- SECAs report to work on Wednesday at 7:45 a.m.
- Security Personnel report to work on Wednesday at 7:45 a.m.
- Parent Workers report to work on Thursday at 7:30 a.m.
Agenda Overview for Next Week
- Monday's agenda and handouts are available in Google Classroom. The majority of the morning will be spent reviewing the school handbook and completing mandated District trainings. The afternoon is fully teacher directed.
- Tuesday is a busy day with professional development on REACH, an overview of the NWEA Instructional Insights Report, unit planning sessions, and revisiting BUFs.
- On Wednesday we will look at grading practices and assessment in differentiated classrooms, and Jodi Mahoney will give us an introduction to ASPEN. The afternoon is free for teacher directed time and classroom preparation.
- Thursday is an all-staff training day. Our theme for the day is Social Emotional Learning. Every staff member will receive a copy of the book Everyday SEL by Carla Tantillo Philibert along with specialized training from a member of Mindful Practices. Our 3rd through 8th grade teachers will learn about the new Classroom Catalyst, a web-based Social Emotional teaching and learning tool. There will be some time for teacher directed activities in the afternoon.
- Friday is a teacher directed day. Our Annual BBQ will take place in the courtyard at 11:30--remember to sign-up for a "dish" to share using the Google link that you will receive on Monday. Our Back to School Fair will take place in the afternoon from 1:00-3:00 (hopefully taking place on the playground--but most likely in the student lunchroom and hallways). Teachers, please be available in your classrooms so that students may drop off any school supplies.
Construction Zone
Be prepared for a surprise when you arrive to school next week. We are getting a new playground! A special thank you goes out to our amazing Alderman, Deb Mell. Her hard work, determination, and persistence helped us to get this fabulous new playground for our children. Construction will hopefully be completed by the end of next week. Fingers Crossed!
Charge Your Laptops!
You will need your laptop for our meeting on Monday. If you haven't already done so, pick up your laptop from the conference room and plug it in! Our meeting will begin promptly at 9:00 in the library.
Calling All Students!
We are asking that you take some time during the first few days of work next week to make personal connections to your incoming students and their families. (A quick phone call welcoming them to your classroom as well a personal invitation from you to our Back to School Fair on Friday at 1:00.)
Over 400 backpacks were donated to our students and we would like to make sure as many families as possible visit us on Friday afternoon. Phone numbers are available on IMPACT and in the Main Office (Emergency Forms).

While we understand that you might not be able to reach many of your students' parents, a brief voicemail or in some cases an email is sufficient. Thank you!
Building Hours
The building will be open from 6:30 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. If you are working past 5:00 p.m., please let an administrator know.
