A Message from Ms. Ellison
Dear Glen Grove Families,
Wow! What an excellent start to the school year. We have only been in school for a week and already our students are doing a fantastic job building community, following routines, and engaging in learning. We have spent a lot of time this week talking about the Gator Values and teaching expectations that support our learning community across the building.
I hope that everyone enjoyed Curriculum Night last night. It was wonderful to be learning together and partnering on behalf of our students. If you could not attend, please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions about the teaching and learning at Glen Grove.
A quick note about car lane drop-off. Our doors do not open until 7:35. If you are driving, your child should exit their car in the designated area in front of door B. Please have your child remain in the car until they are in front of door B. This creates a safer flow of traffic by reducing the number of cars who stop in the middle of the lane and/or have to pull out around each other. I know we are all getting used to new routines, but it is important that we all work together to ensure a safe drop-off in the morning.
Finally, I wanted to share a note of appreciation to all of our caregivers. Your children have come to school ready to learn. Thanks for all you do to prepare them each and every day!
As always, do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions, comments, or concerns.
In partnership,
Kate Ellison

The Food Services department is experiencing unprecedented staff shortages. To continue to provide meals to students in this environment, we may need to adjust to a limited menu, removing the hot entree option. This change may happen on any given day, at one or multiple schools. We will provide information to families at a particular school if this does happen, though communication may occur on short notice.
We appreciate your understanding!
From the Nurse's Office
If you need any help or support during this difficult time, please do not hesitate to call Jennifer Hastings, RN, our Health Coordinator, at (847) 657-2394.
All student absences should be called into the health office no later than 7:45 a.m. at (847) 657-2394. The school has voicemail so parents can call the health office to leave messages at any time.
If your children come to school after 7:45 a.m., please have them come through the front office. This is for the safety of all of our students.
Fall Band and Orchestra Information
Wednesday, September 7th is the last day to enroll in band and orchestra!
We are very excited about the large number of students who have already filled out the enrollment form and we can’t wait to begin making music with all of our new musicians. In case you missed it, here’s the link to sign-up for instrumental music.
Musically yours,
Cindy Warren (Band Director)
Andrew Babcock (Orchestra Director)
News from the LRC
Welcome back!
Back to school means library books are coming home again!
Please help your children find a special place for school library books to be kept at home so that they don’t get mixed up with personal or public library books. School library books have a two week due date but we ask that students return their library books as soon as they are finished with them so others can enjoy them. Students may check out as many books as they need.
Are you interested in volunteering?
The Glen Grove library is looking for people to help shelve books. There is no experience necessary to volunteer. We will teach you all you need to know to help in the library. Volunteer once a week or once a month, it’s up to you! We welcome any and all the help that fits your schedule.
If you are interested, please contact Lisa Funke, the LRC Director lfunke@glenview34.org
News From Glenview Public Library (GPL)
Glenview Public Library is pleased to announce that all children living in unincorporatedGlenview and served by District 34 are now eligible for a full privilege library card at no cost.
Glenview Public Library's Board of Trustees recently voted to adopt a resolution to provide library cards at no cost to children living in unincorporated Glenview, within the Glenview school district service area, and where GPL is their nearest library. This decision aligns with the Illinois General Assembly Public Act 102-0843, which authorizes libraries to waive non-resident fees for anyone under 18.
Why did the GPL adopt this policy?
Glenview Public Library and Glenview schools work together to provide equal access to information and resources for all children, regardless of whether they live in an incorporated or unincorporated area of Glenview. Waiving the non-resident fee for all children removes a significant barrier to Library access and levels the educational playing field. Furthermore, every Glenview student can now benefit from literacy programs offered during school breaks, such as the summer reading program.
How do children get a library card?
Visit the Library's Circulation Desk.
Children under 16 need to be present with a parent/guardian.
Present a valid Illinois state photo ID with current address.
Questions? Please contact Karen Kee, Material Services Director at GPL
GG Community Project
AN INTRODUCTION
Our Journey Continues! We started a journey last year to bring the Gator Community together through the Glen Grove Community Project, which is a growing collection of traditions and experiences as told by the Glen Grove students, families, and staff. We are so lucky to have a growing diverse community and this needs to be shared, highlighted, and appreciated.
This year, our goal is to continue this journey. Our Community Project site, while already housing a wealth of information collected from the 2021-2022 school year, is a dynamic space. We will continue to add more resources, more opportunities for student input, and maybe even transition to spaces that will allow for further growth.
Here are some other things to look forward to:
- We will be sending newsletters monthly to highlight upcoming holidays and traditions! (See the ones happening in August and September!)
- We will be sharing plans for upcoming opportunities for participation (i.e., setting up an ofrenda for Dia de Los Muertos, artifacts from various holidays of light, etc.)
- We hope to share discussion questions to guide conversations in the classroom.
We look forward to going on this journey with you! As always, all are welcome to share their traditions with us! If you would like to participate, please print a copy of the interest form to submit.
