A Message from Ms. Ellison

Dear Gator Families,

I hope that you all enjoyed curriculum night and were able to get a sense of the teaching and learning happening in your child’s classroom. I know our teachers appreciated the opportunity to partner with you and I loved meeting many of you in the principal drop-in zoom.

We are two and a half weeks into the school year and it is great to see the strong teaching and learning happening each and every day across academic areas. We have also started our weekly social/emotional learning lessons using the Second Step researched-based curriculum. This month we will be focusing on growth mindset and goal setting across all of our classrooms during our SEL time.

I hope that everyone enjoys the long weekend. Please do not hesitate to reach out anytime for questions or feedback on your experience with Glen Grove.

Sincerely,

Kate Ellison

A Note from Mrs. Moran

Hello! My name is Megan Moran and I am the new Assistant Principal for Student Services this year. I was previously the school psychologist at Glen Grove for the past 3 years and I am looking forward to serving the community in my new role. My main role is to support the educational programming for special education and related services, as well as English-Learner, Multi-Tiered System of Supports, and gifted programming. I am also a point of contact for parents who have concerns regarding their child's programming in the school setting. Additionally, I support Mrs. Ellison with a variety of other responsibilities such as School Improvement Planning and Professional Development. I am looking forward to a successful 21-22 school year!

From the Nurse's Office

If you need any help or support during this difficult time of the pandemic, please do not hesitate to call Jennifer Hastings, RN, our Health Coordinator, at (847) 657-2394.

All student absences should be called into the health office no later than 7:45 a.m. at (847) 657-2394. The school has voicemail so parents can call the health office to leave messages at any time.

If your children come to school after 7:45 a.m. please have them come through the front office. This is for the safety of all of our students.

Picture Day Orders

Be sure to put in your Picture Day orders by tonight!

News from the LRC

Virtual Author and Illustrator Visit

On Friday, September 10th at 1:40 pm, Charise Mericle Harper and Rory Lucey will be virtually visiting all 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders in the district to celebrate the upcoming release of their new graphic novel collaboration, Bad Sister.

If you would like to order a copy of the book for $12.75, please visit The Book Stall’s website or print this form and send payment to school. All orders are due by Monday, September 13th. Purchased books will receive a signed bookplate from the author and illustrator.

Celebrate With Books

Glen Grove School will resume the popular book program. During your students’ birthday month, they will receive a letter explaining the program. Families can choose to participate in the optional celebration by contributing money to the LRC. This money will be used to purchase new titles for the library. The average cost of a hardcover book is $20 but any donation is accepted. Parents can write a check payable to Glen Grove School or send cash. Thank you for supporting the library and growing our collection.

Unlimited Checkout

Students may check out as many books as they need to read in the library. We ask that as soon as the students are finished with a title, they return them in the black return bins found in each grade level hallway. Students may place up to 2 holds at a time in Destiny Discover. They can pick up their holds at Open Library which is a flexible time for students to independently visit the library for the first 30 minutes each school day.

Don’t know what your students currently have checked out? Have them log into Destiny Discover and look under My Stuff to view their checkouts, holds and favorites.

Do you have a question? Feel free to contact me, Lisa Funke, LRC Director at Glen Grove.

Would you like to help shelf books? We are always happy to have help in the library. Please reach out and let me know, lfunke@glenview34.org
