JLMS Principal Update

December 2020

COVID-19 Updates

We want to thank our families for helping us to Stay Safe to Stay Open. As we continue to navigate COVID-19, we are so proud to be able to continue providing the in-person school option for our families. As many of you know, the CDC recently release new quarantine guidelines that can potentially reduce the amount of time an individual would have to isolate if exposed to a positive COVID-19 case. You can see these new guidelines below. If you ever have questions about our District procedures relating to COVID, please do not hesitate to contact the main office at 262.376.5800.

Strengths-Based Social-Emotional Screener (7th & 8th Grade)

In the coming weeks, we will also be piloting a social-emotional screener called the Devereux Student Strengths Assessment (DESSA) in 7th and 8th grades. The DESSA screeners are brief, strength-based rating scales measuring the social and emotional skills that help students do well in school, at home, and in the community. Your 7th- and 8th-grade child's teachers will complete the strength-based assessments based on direct observations of the student’s daily interactions at school. This information will be used to better plan for all students, focusing on their individual strengths. We will look to expand this screener district-wide in the near future. More information can be found here.

Parent Resource for Keeping Your Child Safe with Social Media

"This week the students will be participating in a lesson on social media, online bullying, and online safety. It will be an approximately 15 minute presentation during SOAR on Thursday given by our Student Services Team. We encourage you to talk to your students about this presentation and what they can do to enjoy technology safely.

Here is a handout that goes over some tips on how to ensure your student's safety with some of the most popular apps: Parent/Guardian Tips for Social Media Safety Remember that even if a post, picture, video gets deleted it can still be recovered, this includes SnapChat.

Please reach out to Rachel Beranek, school counselor, or Aly Neumyer, school psychologist, if you have any questions or concerns."

We look forward to digging into this data to see how are students are responding to instruction and identify strategies that will help our students continue to grow as learners. We will send more information on dates and times when the testing window gets closer.
