Wishing all a happy and safe Memorial Day Weekend!
Closing Out The School Year
Pick-Up Logistics
In order to ensure the health & safety of our families and staff, we will have student/parent drop-off line using the car rider dismissal point in the front of the building for parents to drop off library books, chromebooks that were borrowed, and other materials belonging to the teachers. We will have a second line for pick up of students' personal belongings through the bus line by the cafeteria. The drop-off and pick-up will be scheduled from Tuesday, May 26th through Friday, May 29th.
Please place a sign that clearly states student's name (Last, First) in the passenger side dashboard. To facilitate minimal wait times, students with combined last names (EX: Lynn Davis Gentry) should have both last names listed on the car display sign. (EX: Davis Gentry) Typically, items will be listed under the students combined last names.
Medications: Nurse Clark has reached out to families to arrange a pickup time and date for any medications that she has here at Salyers. Medications that are not picked up will be disposed of before next year.
Please note: We will NOT be able to accommodate walk-ups.
For Your Convenience:
- We have arranged both AM and PM times for pick up to accommodate for work schedules.
- Due to limited staff, protective gear, and to minimize staff and family exposure we will only offer pick-up on the dates and times specified. Nurse Clark has made arrangements for medication pick up. Any medications that are not picked up on the dates and times specified will be disposed of before next year? ( Please note: medication can only be picked up by a parent or guardian).
- If you are picking up items for multiple children, please have a sign for each child.
Summer Learning At-Home is Coming Soon
In light of ongoing health and safety concerns related to the pandemic, Spring ISD has redesigned summer school for this year into an online experience available to ALL students and tailored to meet specific instructional needs.
Specifically, the district will host two Summer Learning At-Home sessions to run Monday through Thursday with the first scheduled for June 10-30 and the second slated to run July 7- 28.
For students requiring grade-level support in order to be ready for the next school year, the sessions will include targeted tutorials in reading/literacy as well as STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics). For students looking for additional learning opportunities, we will be offering different enrichment camps depending on their grade level, including AP boot camp, GT camp, STEAM Camp and Literacy Camp.
Watch for more information about these offerings with specific guidance on what programs might best meet the needs of your student. If you’re thinking of participating in ANY of these programs, please do not turn in your district-issued Chromebook. You are invited to keep it until the end of our summer school sessions.
If you have any specific questions about your student, please contact your child's teacher or call Salyers ES at 281-891-8570.

Empowered Learning: Project Based Learning (PBL) Lessons and Assignments
Final PBL Available Online this Weekend; Paper Copies Available Here At Salyers Starting May 26
Parents as we close out the 2019-20 school year, we’re looking forward to seeing your students complete the last Project-Based Learning plan, which is due on May 28. PBL #3 will be available on the district website at www.springisd.org/athome this weekend. For families in need of a printed copy of the PBL plan, copies will be available here at Salyers ES starting Tuesday, May 26, and will be distributed on those days designated for you to come and pick up your student’s belongings or to return library books or other district-owned items. Printed copies of PBL #3 will NOT be available at the meal distribution sites this week.
PBL and Progress Reports:
In an effort to inform you of your child's progress, you should have received a progress report last week from your teacher noting the completion of assignments due for PBL #1. Just a reminder that progress reports received only displayed the assignment grades for completed work and did not reflect missing assignments. We do not penalize students for late work, and are expecting missing assignments to be turned in. All assignments will be averaged into the final report card, including missing assignments and grades for the final marking period. Thank you for working with our students to complete this last assignment, as well as any other missing assignments.
The SISD grading policy is outlined below for your convenience.
