What can the District do to help our students and families feel safe and cared for if we are mandated to perform COVID testing at schools?
We want to stay connected and hear your questions and ideas about moving forward during this challenging and uncertain time. We are smarter and better together. With that in mind, we are asking you to join us in this exchange.
Please Note: New York State has implemented a new strategy to reduce the spread of COVID-19. This strategy creates “cluster zones” designated based on geographic case prevalence and then restrictions are implemented accordingly. One of these restrictions is the requirement of COVID-19 testing in schools if schools are to remain open for in-person instruction. Every 14 days these strategies would then be re-examined.
- If HF-L Schools were placed in the yellow zone, we would be required to test 20% of our in-person staff and student population per week until we are no longer considered a yellow.
- You will not be required to be tested. We will only test with consent. We will notify those selected for testing 24 hours in advance. Nobody will be excluded from school as a result of their choice to not be tested.
- Test results will be available in 15 minutes. Negatives will be notified on the spot. Positives will be isolated in designated health office areas and need to be picked up as soon as possible. This is no different than the procedure when someone is symptomatic at school. Those testing positive will need to follow up with their medical provider.
- THE TEST IS EASY AND NON-INVASIVE! Monroe County is providing the tests and the training. This is the simple, quick, shallow nasal swab test.
NOTE: If the District is placed in a yellow zone, and we do not test 20% of our in-person staff and student population per week until we are no longer considered a yellow, the District would have to close and move to a fully remote model of instruction.

Asynchronous Learning Days
On Tuesday, October 27, 2020, the Honeoye Falls-Lima Central School District’s Board of Education approved a change to the District’s calendar. This change marks Monday, November 30, 2020, as the District’s first full asynchronous learning day for students K-12. Staff will be in session.
During an asynchronous learning day, otherwise known as a remote learning day, staff will be required to report to work where they will be given the opportunity to plan curriculum and collaborate with colleagues. There will also be professional development opportunities available to staff if they choose. Students will have assignments posted online for them to complete during the asynchronous day. There will be no live instructional classes on this day as students will be expected to work independently.
Asynchronous learning days are designed with both the students and teachers in mind. These days provide the opportunity for teachers to catch up on their professional obligations while students complete meaningful assignments at home.
For all:
· Staff comes to school unless otherwise directed by the superintendent.
· Activities posted within Seesaw or Schoology, in alignment with previously stated expectations.
· Completion of the SEL survey to verify attendance
At K-5:
· Families should plan for 2-3 hours of activities for reading and math
· Specials will continue based on letter day and should be planned for
At 6-12:
· Students should expect 30 minutes of work per class
· Activities posted within Schoology, in alignment with previously stated expectations.
· Completion of the SEL survey to verify attendance
· Specials will continue based on letter day and should be planned for
Three other asynchronous learning days were added to the District’s calendar that includes January 29, March 15, and April 30. On asynchronous learning days, parents will need to make accommodations for the care of their children.
Families that would like meals for pick-up on asynchronous learning days should place their orders with the online system as they would on regular instructional day.
For any questions regarding the District’s asynchronous learning day please contact your child(ren)’s building principal.
