Administrators' Message
Dear Sandymount Families~
It is about that time when we begin planning for the 2021-22 school year. Articulation is a multifaceted and collaborative process for creating grade level classes based on multiple data points. We also develop intervention and enrichment programs for the upcoming school year based on the needs of individual/groups of students.
Please know that your child’s interest will always be at the heart of any classroom placement. In order to ensure that each one of our students’ academic and social/emotional needs are met, we do not place students in classes based on parental request. However, if you have information you would like considered as part of our decision, please send your input via email to Mrs. Murphy and/or Mrs. Kowaleviocz by Friday, May 14th. Please refrain from asking for a specific teacher, as we cannot guarantee the makeup of teachers in each grade level for the next school year. Instead, your input should describe a teaching method and/or character traits that would be a good fit for your child’s learning style and/or social/emotional needs.
We value your contribution and thank you in advance for trusting in us to make educational decisions in the best interest of your child.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Earth Day at Sandymount
Primary grades celebrated Earth Day and the theme of “RESTORATION” by focusing on Coral Reefs. Changes in our world including pollution and global warming have threatened the reefs. We learned that when coral become sick, they lose the algae that live in their cells, and their beautiful colors start to fade. Eventually, they become a bone color which is called coral bleaching. About twenty percent of the coral reefs around the world are now bleached. However, by reading the story THE BRILLIANT DEEP by Kate Messner and Matthew Forsythe, students’ learned that coral reefs can be regrown, thanks to the efforts and ideas of Ken Nedimyer. He discovered that coral reefs can be rebuilt by hand, using a hammer and glue. The process is called grafting and he was able to graft and then grow his first piece of coral in the Florida Keys and the Cocoa Beach area (one of Mr. Yount’s favorite surf spots). Today, through his Coral Reef Foundation, hundreds of volunteers are now farming and transplanting coral underneath the waves- all over the world!

Sandymount PTA
Next week is Teacher Appreciation Week; be sure to have your student show just how much they appreciate everything their teacher has done for them this year! There is a "Teacher Favorites" listing available in Classroom Parent for your reference.
Thank you to all of the families that have made a donation towards our Opt-In Fundraiser. There is still time to show your support. All funds will be used to cover expenses for online subscriptions, agenda books, classroom supplies and a donation to the Technology Fund. If each student raises $20, we will have enough funds to cover everything needed for next year. Thank you for your consideration and support!
Make a donation via check made out to Sandymount PTA, PayPal https://www.paypal.com/us/fundraiser/charity/2288607 or Venmo
The PTA is actively looking to fill the position of Treasurer and President. If you are interested, please reach out to us at sandymountpta1@gmail.com. Our last meeting will be held May 12th at 7pm.
Parent Pick Up Reminder - No Walk-Ups
It has been brought to the attention of administration that some parents are walking up to the parent pick up area instead of waiting in the line. For the safety of our students, parents and staff, please refrain from walking up to our parent pick up area to pick up your student. There are no "walk-ups" and you will be asked to return to your car and proceed with the rest of the car rider line. Thank you in advance for your support!
