VOGELTOWN SCHOOL
TE KURA O HUATOKI. WEEK 7 TERM 1 2019
SCHOOL GOAL: INITIATIVE
Initiative is being asked to do things by yourself without being asked to.
Signs of Success:
* Your teacher/parents can rely on you to do a job without being asked to
* People might say ‘you are a helpful person’
* You might get a comment on your report ‘a responsible, mature student’
* You are often asked to do important jobs for people
KIA ORA WHANAU, FROM MR O
Our thoughts are also with all the school kids and teachers in Christchurch who went in to 'Lockdown' last Friday - this is a tough thing to do and maintain.
We will be practising our lockdown procedure next week as a result. The key to a lockdown is to have excellent communication between staff and then with parents and families. Our staff have an app on their phones that has our procedure, class roll and allows us to update each other. If we ever have to go in to lockdown for real, you will receive and alert on your phone from our SMS system here at school. We will also update whanau on our facebook page and our school app. We hope we never have to do this for real, but we must be prepared for any outcome.
LOVE, PEACE AND UNITY MARCH
In the wake of the tragedy in Christchurch organisers are working with the NPDC, Migrant Connections and the Muslim Association of Taranaki have planned a candlelight vigil this Friday 22 March at the Bowl of Brooklands at 7.00pm. All are welcome to attend.
ENROLMENTS AT VOGELTOWN
If your child is turning 5 soon and you are planning on bringing them to Vogeltown, then please can you get an enrolment pack from the office and get the form in.
As part of planning for class sizes and maintaining good student to teacher class ratios, we need to know what enrolments we have coming to VS.
A reminder that our school is governed by an enrolment scheme. Families and students who live within the school zone are automatically accepted. Out of zone families and students need to apply for an 'Out of Zone application' to come to VS. More info about the enrolment scheme can be found here: http://www.vogeltown.school.nz/zoning-2016/out-of-zone-enrollment-form/
Thanks.
WEET BIX TRYATHLON - UPDATE
The Weetbix TRYathlon is approaching fast. It is on next Tuesday 26th March at Ngamotu Beach. Your child should have their event kit. On the day I will go to Ngamotu Beach before school and put up our Vogeltown Gazebo. When you come down register your child and take their bike to the transition area. Then come and find us at the Gazebo. You are responsible for getting your child to and from the event. It is always a lot of fun and we look forward to seeing you there.
