Dublin Grizzell Middle School
December 2nd, 2022
Principal's Message
As we move into the last two weeks of the 1st semester, I reminded the students to be sure to check Schoology and make sure that they are up to speed in all of their courses and to complete/turn in any missing work. As a parent, I know that it is sometimes difficult to get your student to talk about their school day and the things that they are doing in class. Now would be a great opportunity to sit down with them, have them open their Schoology courses, and talk about assignments that may or may not be missing.
It has been a great 1st semester at Grizzell and I'm looking forward to a strong finish prior to winter break.
Thank you and I hope that everyone has a great weekend!
Andy
I saw this sign at our hotel in Rochester a couple of weekends ago and I figured with the winter weather approaching in the coming weeks, it's a nice reminder. 😂😂

Grizzell Gives Back Club
Thank You to the Grizzell Gives Back Club!
Thank you to all the kids who donated candy and to the members of Grizzell Gives Back for your support for the Medical Staff at Children's Hospital and the families of the Ronald McDonald House. Special shout out to DCS Staff member Danielle Henn and parent Gianna Sabado for their help in facilitating the donations. We received the following note about our donations:
"I wanted to let you know that the medical team in the emergency room really appreciated the candy that was donated. It has been a very busy time at the hospital and they are working hard 24/7, 365. The staff at the Ronald McDonald House shared that the families also appreciate the candy donation. Families are often going through a lot when staying there and a little extra love can mean a lot to them."

This year's GLO event, an evening of fun for all students (and a few lucky volunteer adults) will be on Friday, February 10th from 6-9pm. We wanted to let you know so you can make sure your calendar is clear for this event - you will not want to miss it! The GLO event will have activities for all students and we will be kicking off with our sale of the official GLO t-shirts (tie-dye this year with two versions to choose from) and the beginning of our GLO Raffle ticket sale during December. T-shirts will be delivered to students in January in plenty of time to let them enjoy them before the big event.
The PTO will need many hands to help us organize and deliver this wonderful event. There will be opportunities to volunteer to help with planning, setup, donations (gift cards, baked goods, and yes, even 2-liter Sprite bottles...we'll need 100 of them!) so please watch the newsletter and our PTO space on Facebook for announcements. We look forward to having all of our kids get their GLO on!
Grizzell Wins Ohio STEM Classroom Grant
Grizzell Middle School, thanks to Mrs. Noteman and her cog classes, will be awarded $5,000 to expand STEM learning projects through Ohio STEM Learning Network Classroom Grant Program, funded by Battelle. The 223 grants issued this fall will create sustainable, STEM learning projects to benefit students for years to come.
At Grizzell, we are going to create a flexible outdoor space, which could be used for science experiments, club meetings, and community meetings. The students helped draft this grant application, and completed the research and justification statements. They are excited to work with our facilities department to implement our vision.
In total, 163 public schools join Grizzell in winning the award. The program reached students in one of every seven school districts (124) across 60 Ohio counties.
“Every Ohio community should have access to the kind of quality STEM education that drives opportunity for families and job growth in our state.” said Kelly Gaier Evans, Director of the Ohio STEM Learning Network. “This program creates champions of STEM in local communities and, through them, fosters new opportunities for students."
The grant program fosters the growth of the Ohio STEM Learning Network as a public-private partnership between Battelle and the State of Ohio. Providing more access for all students to experience quality science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) education is Battelle’s top philanthropic priority.
“Battelle is proud to invest in the hundreds of educators who submitted ideas to expand STEM learning for their students,” said Wes Hall, Vice President of Philanthropy & Education. “Together, we can inspire a new generation to solve the most pressing challenges of the future.”
Awarded classrooms will receive grants of up to $5,000. Projects aligned to at least one of four focus areas:
Community Problem Solving
STEM Career Exploration
Building STEM Mindsets
Design Thinking and Security

Our theme this year is "Give the gift of Reading." The Grizzell Library is accepting monetary donations this winter to give to Imagination Library (this is not affiliated with Scholastic). Each month, Imagination Library mails a high-quality, age appropriate book to all registered children, addressed to them, at no cost to the child’s family.
There will be cash donation jars for 6th, 7th, and 8th graders at the Book Fair. We will have a little bit of a competition going on to see which grade level is able to donate the most money. All cash donations are given to Imagination Library. The results will be available on the library webpage and will reflect new totals at the end of each day. We will celebrate the final donation amount at the end of the fair!
Thank you for supporting the GMS Library! And, thank you for supporting the gift of reading with Imagination Library!
